Tekken Boss Wanted to Add KFC’s Colonel Sanders to the Roster

Tekken Boss Wanted to Add KFC’s Colonel Sanders to the Roster

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours logged into various titles, I can’t help but feel a tinge of regret that Colonel Sanders never got his chance to throw down in Tekken 8. The thought of him delivering a swift uppercut or a side kick is as tantalizing as a bucket of original recipe chicken at midnight. However, the rejection by KFC’s headquarters only fueled my curiosity about what could have been.

Katsuhiro Harada, the lead on Tekken, and game designer Michael Murray shared that they attempted to incorporate Colonel Sanders from KFC into the game’s roster, but their idea was turned down in the end.

In an interview with The Gamer, Katsuhiro Harada shared that he had thought up a plan to incorporate Colonel Sanders, KFC’s well-known mascot, into the Tekken roster. He made his case for this character by paying a visit to the company headquarters in Japan. Unfortunately, Harada’s concept didn’t sit well with the decision-makers as he encountered a negative response, and ultimately, the idea was turned down.

Back when I pitched the idea of Colonel Sanders joining the Tekken roster, I was met with a rather closed response from KFC’s higher-ups. Yet, it seems that Colonel Sanders did manage to make appearances in other games later on. This leaves me wondering if perhaps the issue was just him being pitted against an opponent. In the end, it serves as a reminder of how challenging these types of discussions can be.

Talking about Tekken characters, Heihachi Mishima is back in Tekken 8. Mishima is available for 72 hours of early access for Playable Character Year 1 Pass holders. At the same time, the developers have also introduced a new stage called Genmaji Temple, a new story episode called Unforgotten Echoes, feature improvements, bug fixes and more.
