Great news for racing game lovers! Forza Horizon 6 is coming out on May 19th for Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 players will be able to enjoy it later in 2024.
The team at Playground Games has wanted to set a Forza Horizon game in Japan “for a very long time,” they announced today. They know fans are excited and are committed to making the game live up to those expectations.
Forza Horizon’s Japan map is the biggest and most detailed open world the game has ever offered, with incredible differences in elevation and changing seasons. The city of Tokyo within the game is particularly massive – it’s five times the size of any other city featured in a Forza Horizon title.
If you’re new to the Forza Horizon series, it’s built around the idea of starting with nothing and gradually building your way up – and that core experience will continue in Forza Horizon 6. You’ll be able to freely explore all of Japan outside of the Horizon Festival grounds, at your own speed.
To create a realistic and immersive open-world Japan, the developers at Playground Games worked with a cultural consultant. The game will feature a wide variety of collectibles – like cars, famous places, and hidden surprises – all of which players can track using an in-game journal.
Forza Horizon 6 Will Launch with the Most Cars in Franchise History
Forza Horizon 6 will launch with an impressive selection of 550 cars. The game’s car list has been completely reworked to make sure everything is well-balanced. Players will also have more options for finding and collecting cars, including hidden collectibles to discover while playing.
The new Horizon Rush event challenges players with obstacle courses set across Japan, like one showcased at the Tokyo Docks. While the showcase was brief, it highlighted just one of the new features. Players will also be able to connect with friends online through car meetups to enjoy familiar events and participate in new Forza Horizon time attack circuits – seamless, open-world races where you compete for the fastest time on a specific road section.
We recently got another look at Forza Horizon 6, revealing that the player’s home base is located in the Tokyo Docks area. A standout feature is the ability to fully customize your garages, allowing players to personalize their space. The game also introduces “The Estate,” which expands customization options beyond the house and garage, letting you design a complete personal area.

Fans likely won’t be surprised to hear that music will be a big part of the next Forza Horizon game, and it looks like the soundtrack will feature a wide range of artists, including musicians from Japan.
Forza Horizon 6 will be available on Xbox starting May 19, 2026. The PlayStation 5 version is still in development, but is expected to release sometime this year.
