Sharkmob London Cancels Game, Laying Off Employees

As a veteran gamer with decades of gaming experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for those affected by the recent layoffs at Sharkmob London. The gaming industry is notoriously volatile, and it seems like every other week we hear about another studio facing financial difficulties or being forced to make tough decisions.

Sharkmob London has decided to let go of some of its staff members, without specifying the exact number. This action follows the studio’s decision to halt work on a project they had been developing.

The studio is currently figuring out the number of potential job cuts they may have to implement, as stated in their recent announcement.

It’s important to acknowledge that our sector is encountering difficulties, which necessitates us adjusting our approach to seize the most promising business prospects, the company stated. Unfortunately, we must disclose that a game development project by our London team, which had been under wraps for some time, has now been terminated.

Regrettably, postponing the game leads to fewer team members we can keep at our London studio. It’s a challenging period for us, and our primary concern is offering assistance and direction to those who might be affected by this change.

Regarding the specific timing of layoffs at Sharkmob London, it’s still uncertain. Established in 2020, Sharkmob London is among the two studios under the Sharkmob umbrella. Meanwhile, Sharkmob Malmö, its sister studio, is engaged in developing a tactical extraction shooter titled Exoborne.

In the year 2019, Sharkmob was acquired by Tencent. Their debut title, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt, hit the shelves in 2022.
