Summary
- Marvel Cosmic Invasion, developed by Tribute Games, has a classic arcade beat ’em up gameplay style.
- The game allows players to mix and match Marvel superheroes for dynamic team-up abilities.
- Playable characters include Captain America, Spider-Man, Venom, Wolverine, Storm, Quasar, and Nova.
Tribute Games, who made ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge’, has unveiled an exciting new title from Marvel Games – Marvel Cosmic Invasion. This upcoming game is expected to continue the arcade beat ’em up style of gameplay that fans loved in games like ‘Captain America and The Avengers’ or Konami’s ‘X-Men’ arcade game.
As I eagerly awaited the big reveal, I got a sneak peek at the gameplay for this upcoming title, featuring seven characters that have been confirmed as playable. Each one looks like they’ll be a blast to control on my own, but what really caught my attention was the promise of classic local co-op mode. Now, imagine teaming up with friends as different Marvel superheroes and anti-heroes, switching between them seamlessly for strategic gameplay, and witnessing incredible team-up abilities and animations in action!
7. Captain America
Marvel Can Always Rely On The Super Soldier
- First Appearance: Captain America Comics #1
Equipped with a vibranium shield and enhanced strength from being a super-soldier, Captain America frequently appears in Marvel video games, particularly team-ups. In the game Marvel Cosmic Invasion, he functions as the primary brawler character, charging into battles and inflicting maximum damage – a characteristic that aligns with Captain America’s usual style of play.
In partnership with characters who rely on range, like Storm or Spider-Man, he’d make an excellent frontline fighter. Whether Captain America can hurl his shield isn’t definitive yet, but given the destructive potential of that shield, it seems likely. It would be a miss to not include his iconic skill of bouncing his shield in a game dedicated to Captain America.
6. Spider-Man
Saving The World Is A Normal Tuesday For Peter Parker
- First Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15
Spider-Man, for more than two decades, has been the face of Marvel across films, animation, and video games, raking in billions for both Marvel and Sony. Just like Captain America, if an ensemble cast of Marvel heroes is assembled, chances are high that Spider-Man will be included.
In this portrayal, Spider-Man demonstrates all the classic traits of his character. He’s quick, acrobatic, and powerfully built, with a knack for incorporating his web-slinging into his battles. This versatility makes him an effective fighter both on the ground and in the air, allowing him to effortlessly tackle aerial adversaries.
5. Venom
Their Big Appetite Makes Them A Powerful Ally
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #300
Although fans may long for a dedicated Venom game, they enthusiastically welcome the character’s appearances across various Marvel games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the Marvel Ultimate Alliance trilogy, including Marvel Cosmic Invasion. The character’s sprite animations in these games have been particularly impressive, showcasing the unique symbiote physiology to its full potential.
Regarding game mechanics, Venom exhibits the role of a robust attacker capable of striking numerous foes simultaneously, utilizing its colossal maw and symbiotic tendrils as weapons. Due to its reputation for withstanding deities themselves, it’s likely that Venom possesses higher health points compared to other characters.
4. Wolverine
The Best At What He Does
- First Appearance: The Incredible Hulk Vol. 1 #181
Regarding the world of movies and video games, Wolverine stands out as yet another unrivaled figure within the Marvel universe due to his unique superhero persona. With numerous appearances in Marvel-themed games under his belt, it’s hardly astonishing that he’s featured in “Marvel Cosmic Invasion”. This is because Wolverine embodies a character known for his aggressive tendencies and deep-seated anger problems.
Wolverine is renowned for his ferocious berserker temper and swift assaults, earning him an apt nickname. His gameplay style revolves around speed, inflicting massive damage per second on opponents by slashing them. Additionally, he can leap onto enemies and skewer them with his claws.
3. Storm
There’s A Reason She’s A Leader For The X-Men
- First Appearance: Giant-Size X-Men #1
It’s fortunate that Storm developed into such a compassionate and selfless individual, given her formidable personality. She possesses the ability to command the elements as effortlessly as blinking an eye, showcasing her immense power. In the comic books, she can summon lightning, create tornadoes, and even raise a tidal wave, placing her among Marvel’s most powerful characters.
As a gamer, I’ve found that Marvel Cosmic Invasion truly captures the essence of this character with her full range of weather powers and flight abilities. The flying capability serves as both an escape route when things get tough and a means to engage airborne adversaries, but it’s reassuring to know that her combat skills remain effective in mid-air, ensuring a seamless battle experience or lending aid to my allies from up high.
2. Quasar
Wielding The Quantum Sword With Marvelous Power
- First Appearance: Captain Marvel Vol. 5 #16
Among all the superheroes from the cosmos portrayed by Marvel, it wasn’t Quasar (Phylla-Vell) who fans anticipated to be part of Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Despite this, she is a captivating character with impressive powers that are on par, and sometimes even surpass, those of Captain Marvel. There’s nothing amiss about the character itself.
In this version, I aimed to maintain the original meaning while making it more conversational and easy to understand.
Adding Quasar to the team increases the variety in our lineup. Not every Marvel game has to focus solely on popular mainstays like the Avengers or X-Men. One unique aspect of Quasar’s gameplay is her Quantum Sword, which grants her longer reach than many melee characters. Moreover, her flight ability offers her a tactical advantage with enhanced mobility in combat.
1. Nova
Galactic Protector Of The Innocent
- First Appearance: The Man Called Nova #1
In video games and animated series, the character Nova has had opportunities to excel, as he hasn’t made an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there’s been much potential for him, especially given his connections to the Guardians of the Galaxy. Luckily, it’s confirmed that he will feature in “Marvel Cosmic Invasion” among other flying characters, where he can charge into battles using his Nova Force, a powerful ability that allows him to attack enemies with a combination of close-range and long-range attacks.
In the game “Marvel Cosmic Invasion,” it’s not clear which iteration of Nova is featured, as there are two well-known comic book versions: Richard Rider and Sam Alexander. Each version brings a unique flavor to the cosmic superhero, making it intriguing to find out how their powers will be portrayed in the game. Given that Nova has regenerative abilities and can sense impending dangers before they strike, we’re curious to see just how much of these capabilities will be showcased in the game.
