Okay, so as it stands right now, Hytale feels a lot like Minecraft, which isn’t surprising considering it started as a mod for the game. The early access version really focuses on the basic building and survival stuff, and they’re planning to add the deeper RPG and questing elements later. Honestly, at first, it definitely gave me Minecraft vibes – the starting areas look familiar, setting up a new world is similar, that sort of thing. But even in this early stage, there are a bunch of really cool improvements! I’m loving the smoother movement, the way you get better gear, the variety of monsters, and how they actually behave in combat. Plus, the furniture is amazing – it’s what I’ve always wanted in Minecraft! I’m really excited about where Hytale is going, and I’m not worried at all that they don’t have everything planned out right now. I have a good feeling about this game.
As a big fan of Hytale, I’ve been following their plans after launch, and honestly, it’s a little unclear what’s coming next. They’re talking about a revamped world generation system in a few months, and a proper Adventure mode with quests is planned for a few years down the line. But beyond that, it sounds like the developers at Hypixel Studios really want to listen to what the community wants before making big decisions. I’m hoping they’ll share a more detailed roadmap soon, but they might just surprise us with updates whenever they have something cool! One thing players have been asking for since the game was first announced is something like Redstone from Minecraft. However, the founder of Hypixel recently hinted that adding a system like that is just too much work right now. While I can see why some people are disappointed, I personally don’t think Redstone is that important. I also don’t believe it should be a top priority, considering the kind of game Hytale is aiming to be.
Why is Minecraft’s Redstone so Desirable?
Redstone in Minecraft is a complex system that lets players build automated machines and structures by connecting wiring to different devices. Over time, it’s evolved into something much more than simple logic – it’s become a robust form of in-game electricity. Creating a similar system for Hytale would be a huge undertaking, and might not quite fit the game’s overall design without some changes. Some players propose a simplified, magic-based alternative, aiming for a reliable “just works” experience like the Create mod. However, I believe that the development effort would be better focused on other areas of the game.
I’ve always been fascinated by people who are good with Redstone in Minecraft. I remember being a kid and a friend built this simple hidden door for our base, and I was absolutely amazed! Looking back, it probably wasn’t that complicated, but at the time it felt like only geniuses could understand Redstone – something I definitely thought was beyond me. And honestly, it still is! Years later, my builds are still pretty basic, and I don’t really use Redstone for anything important. My fiancee is amazing at designing the outside of houses and buildings, and I focus on the interiors, trying to make them cozy and detailed. But every single build ends up with a chest overflowing with Redstone dust that I never actually use. I just… hold onto it, for some reason, even though I never get around to learning how it all works!
You can find plenty of Redstone tutorials online, but truly mastering it takes a lot of effort. Plus, even a small change can easily break all your creations, forcing you to rebuild everything – which can be a frustrating process of trying things out until they work.
Image via Mojang I’ve become increasingly intimidated by Redstone over the years, seeing all the amazing things people build with it online. Players have created fully functional calculators, ships, and even entire games inside Minecraft using Redstone technology. Beyond that, they’ve built incredibly useful things like automatic farms, complex storage systems, and secure vault doors. While all of this looks really cool and fun to build once you understand Redstone, I just haven’t been able to motivate myself to learn it. I definitely see how Redstone unlocks a lot of creative possibilities, but I’m happy enough with simpler builds and a bit less creative freedom. So, honestly, I won’t care much if Hytale adds a similar system – I know I’ll never use it. But give me more building blocks, furniture, or RPG elements, and I’ll be thrilled!
While Redstone Would Be Welcome in Hytale, I’m Hoping It Stays on the Backburner
I don’t think Hytale should never include Redstone, just because I and many of my friends don’t use it. That would be unfair, as the players who are really skilled with Redstone deserve to have their needs met. However, I believe adding Redstone should wait until the game’s current goals are achieved. Building a Redstone system is likely complex, and I’d prefer the developers focus on completing the planned areas for Hytale‘s world and releasing the Adventure mode they’ve promised.
Redstone, a core component of Minecraft, started as a basic feature in the game’s early versions. However, the update released in 2013—version 1.5—significantly expanded its capabilities with additions like droppers. Interestingly, much of how Redstone works today is actually due to unintentional glitches and bugs that were never fully fixed.
Hytale aims for a balance between role-playing game elements and survival/crafting, but currently excels at the latter. There’s a risk that if the developers focus too much on community requests, the RPG aspects, which will make Hytale unique compared to Minecraft, could be delayed. While Minecraft will always be popular, Hytale needs to establish its own identity, rather than feeling like a heavily modded version of the game. This is a key concern for streamers like Shroud, who want to see a fully realized experience before playing.
Image via Hypixel It’s perfectly fine for Hytale to respond to player feedback and make small improvements. Things like the ability to hide helmets and armor are welcome changes as the game develops towards Adventure mode. Adding new creatures, like the recent dinosaurs, is also a good way to keep things interesting while the team builds the larger boss battles. They can continue to add furniture and crafting recipes, and refine things that don’t quite work yet, like ladders. I’d really like to see fishing added, too! However, it’s important that the game stays focused on its core vision. It would be a shame if unique RPG elements, especially the promised Adventure mode, were sacrificed to accommodate every player request, like adding a complex Redstone system.
