VALORANT is Moving to Unreal Engine 5 With “New Playable Experiences”

As a dedicated Valorant enthusiast who’s been hooked since its launch in 2020, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation at Riot Games’ decision to migrate from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. It’s like watching the old Ferrari being traded for a brand-new Tesla model!

Riot Games has announced that VALORANT will move from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.

The announcement was made by Anna Donlan, SVP and Head of VALORANT Studios at Riot Games. She explained that they have maximized all possible resources in Unreal Engine 4, leading them to transition to Unreal Engine 5. This shift is challenging, especially for a live service game like theirs, but it’s essential.

Speaking as an enthusiast, I must say that this update won’t drastically alter the appearance or performance of Valorant, at least not immediately.

Donlon hinted that developers are eagerly anticipating what Unreal Engine 5 could offer Riot Games in the coming times, implying that they might be secretly working on something related, or brainstorming ideas for broadening the scope of the Val universe to include novel gameplay experiences.
