No Rest for the Wicked blends the action-packed gameplay of ARPGs with the challenging combat style found in Souls-like games. This creates intense, rewarding battles and a robust character customization system. The game features both a main story quest and ‘The Crucible,’ a challenging endgame mode designed for endless replayability.
The Crucible in No Rest for the Wicked can be a bit confusing, so here’s a simple guide to help you understand what it is and whether you’re ready to try it with your current character.
What is the Crucible in No Rest for the Wicked?
The Crucible is a challenging game mode where you’ll battle through randomly generated arenas filled with different enemies. Your objective is to defeat all opponents in each stage and ultimately take down the final boss. You can use your fully equipped character – with all your gear and stats – in the Crucible, making it a great way to hone your combat skills and test how powerful your character build is.
How to Unlock the Crucible
When you arrive in Sacrament, you’ll receive a quest called “Spoken and Unspoken.” This quest will lead you to a mason’s house close to the cemetery. Beneath the house, you’ll find the Crucible Atrium. Inside, you’ll meet Elsa, the town historian. Talking to her will unlock the Crucible as part of the quest.
Progression
As you finish rooms and defeat tough enemies in the Crucible, you’ll earn experience points. Plus, you get to keep any items you find during your adventures. Keep these points in mind:
- Overall XP gain here is lower compared to a normal run in any of the overworld zones.
- The Echo Knight boss can randomly drop powerful gear.
The Seneschal
The Seneschal is a character you can trade with who offers different services. You’ll encounter them after completing the sixth chamber in a Crucible run. To use their services, you’ll first need to collect Gloamseeds. You earn these seeds by finishing each Crucible chamber, and you’ll use them to unlock the Seneschal’s offerings one at a time.
To change your character’s build in No Rest for the Wicked, you first need to unlock a service from the Seneschal. Then, you can talk to a statue in the Crucible Atrium to respec.
Rewards
The Seneschal’s chamber is a great goal to reach during a Crucible run. Inside, in the safe area of the sixth chamber, you’ll find three chests with loot you get to keep. If you’re playing with a lower-level character, it’s best to try and reach at least the sixth chamber to make it worthwhile.
Defeating the Echo Knight can reward you with great items, but it’s a challenging fight for lower-level players. If you’re attempting a Crucible run, it’s best to return when you’ve leveled up and become more powerful.
