Nintendo Shuts Down Another Popular Switch Emulator

As a long-time Nintendo fan and emulator enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as yet another beloved emulator, Ryujinx, has been taken down by the gaming giant. The war on emulation seems to be escalating, with Nintendo going after emulators left and right. It feels like they’re trying to turn back the hands of time, making it impossible for us old-school gamers to relive our favorite Nintendo Switch experiences without the actual console.

In simpler terms, Nintendo has closed down a widely used emulator for the Nintendo Switch, called Ryujinx, following an agreement with its developers. This move is part of Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to combat emulation on various platforms.

Yesterday, Nintendo reached out to gdkchan with an offer for a deal that required him to halt work on the project and delete the organization and its assets under his control. As riperiperi awaits confirmation on whether he will accept this agreement, the organization has already been removed from the scene. This seems to indicate what the final decision might be. Instead of letting you wonder and speculate, I thought it would be helpful to share this brief update to bring some clarity to the situation.

Currently, all the emulator files found on GitHub have been taken down, the download section on the Ryujinx website is now vacant, and it appears that there will be no further official updates to the software.

The closure of Ryujinx marks another instance in a series of actions by Nintendo targeting emulators and emulation as a whole. Previously, they managed to halt the operation of the Switch emulator Yuzu earlier this year. Furthermore, they are currently engaged in several legal battles concerning emulation and piracy matters.
