Bungie has announced a new community challenge for Destiny 2 called The Dark Age Hunt, launching during Arms Week. It encourages players to use older weapons instead of the more recently added, Star Wars-inspired blasters. As Bungie focuses on its next game, Marathon, many Destiny 2 fans are curious about the game’s future, especially since there are currently no plans publicly available for 2026.
The extraction shooter Marathon, which was reintroduced late last year, is gaining a lot of attention, while player numbers for Destiny 2 continue to drop, even after the positive reception of the Renegades expansion. Adding to the challenge, the major Destiny 2 update, Shadow and Order, has reportedly been delayed. Originally scheduled for March 3rd – just two days before Marathon’s release – the delay seems to be allowing the developers to focus fully on launching Marathon and will require Destiny 2 fans to wait longer for the new content.
Destiny 2 Announces The Dark Age Hunt Community Challenge
Even though a major content update isn’t planned right now, Bungie is keeping players engaged with a series of temporary events. With players eager for the return of Iron Banner, Bungie is launching a new Arms Week in Destiny 2, highlighting bows. Starting January 27th, alongside Arms Week, players can also participate in a special community challenge called The Dark Age Hunt, but it will only be available for a limited time.
This week, Bungie challenged Destiny 2 players to complete the ‘Cut with Dark Age Steel, O Vengeance Mine’ triumph in the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon. The challenge, running from January 27th to February 3rd, requires a unique loadout of only Bows, Glaives, and Swords – and skillful use of abilities and movement techniques like skating or warping with Eager Edge. It’s a solo run, meaning players must complete the entire dungeon in one attempt without returning to orbit. The good news is, you don’t need a perfect run – it’s okay to fall and revive during the encounters.
To ensure fairness, Bungie will track challenge completions automatically, so players won’t need to submit proof. Those who successfully complete the challenge within the allotted time will receive the exclusive “Fallen Torches” emblem. This emblem depicts a stone wall with a torch, showing both lit and partially burned sections, creating a unique visual design.
Image via Bungie Honestly, it feels like these smaller in-game events are going to be what keep Destiny 2 going for the next month or so while Bungie figures out when they’re actually going to release Shadow and Order. It’s a bit frustrating because the stuff they showed us for the Renegades season was pretty barebones – mostly just things we’ve already seen, like Vanguard Alerts, and a rotating list of weekly challenges. The original roadmap for the year didn’t help much either; it just confirmed the original release date for Shadow and Order and then… nothing. As a fan, I’m really hoping Bungie shares their longer-term plans for Destiny 2 soon so we have a better idea of what’s coming.
