Studio Ghibli films are known for their beautiful art style and touching stories, and they’ve influenced many artists. The developers of the upcoming cozy RPG, The Witch’s Bakery, are big fans of Kiki’s Delivery Service, and that inspiration is clear in their game. The Witch’s Bakery is scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2026 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. It promises to immerse players in a charming world where magical baked goods can heal feelings and bring happiness back to the people of Paris.
Hayao Miyazaki’s first full-length film was Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in 1984, but his famous Studio Ghibli—which he co-founded with Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki—didn’t release its first film until 1986 with Castle in the Sky. The studio gained widespread recognition in 1988 with the beloved My Neighbor Totoro, becoming popular in Japan, Asia, and around the world. In 2001, Spirited Away won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, putting Studio Ghibli alongside major animation studios like Disney and Dreamworks. As Western audiences discovered Ghibli’s films, Kiki’s Delivery Service from 1989 became a global favorite and continues to inspire creators today.
The Witch’s Bakery Transforms Kiki’s Delivery Service into a Cozy RPG
Developer Sunny Lab clearly loves Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service, and that inspiration shines through in their new game, The Witch’s Bakery. This cozy game puts you in the role of Lunne, a young witch who runs a bakery in modern Paris. She uses her baking skills to help people with their feelings. The game is divided into three parts of the day: during the Daytime, you manage the bakery with your friends; in the Evening, you explore Paris, get to know people, uncover secrets, and use magic to understand what your friends are going through. Finally, at Night, you improve your magic, decorate the bakery, and relax in your workshop.

As you play, you’ll help Lunne gain experience, earn money, and become well-known while making friends and solving their problems. The game features a beautifully detailed Paris with different neighborhoods, interesting characters, activities to learn new abilities, and cookbooks full of delicious recipes. Beyond Paris, Lunne will explore the “Heart Palace” of the people she helps – a magical place where emotions and thoughts come to life. There, she’ll need to guide these feelings and help her friends resolve their inner struggles using her healing powers. Each emotional journey presents unique challenges, so players will need to use everything they’ve learned to help Lunne’s friends. Unlike other games inspired by Kiki’s Delivery Service, The Witch’s Bakery focuses on telling heartfelt stories to create a truly magical experience.
