Dying Light 2 Shouldn't Miss an Obvious Crossover Opportunity

As a seasoned gamer with years of undead slaying under my belt, I can’t help but feel the thrill of anticipation for a potential crossover between Techland’s Dying Light 2 and Dead Island 2. The rich history these two franchises share is as tangled as the intestines of a zombie I once… accidentally left in my fridge too long (long story).

Since Dying Light 2 hit the shelves in early 2022, Techland has been dedicated to offering a wealth of post-release content for me as a gamer. The game continues to deliver a constant flow of exciting new experiences that keep things fresh and engaging. From free updates tweaking core mechanics to brand-new missions and premium story expansions, these content drops take fans on thrilling journeys to unseen locations, deepening the lore of the original game’s storyline.

In recent times, fresh opportunities for the game Dying Light 2 and the franchise overall have been rejuvenated, leading Techland to ponder over continuing the game’s effective strategy of cross-overs with other franchises. Now that the excitement surrounding both releases has subsided, it seems fitting for a genuine collaboration between Dying Light 2 and Dead Island 2. Given their shared background in zombie-slaughtering, a connection between these two series is hard to overlook.

It’s Time For Techland to Bridge the Gap Between Dying Light 2 and Dead Island 2

For the game Dying Light 2, the annual post-release content plans have consistently been thrilling. The game has evolved significantly from its initial version due to numerous updates it’s received. The most substantial post-launch content that Dying Light 2 has gotten so far is its “Bloody Ties” story expansion. In this expansion, players get to play as Aiden Caldwell once more, along with a variety of new characters and settings.

Initially planned as a DLC for Dying Light 2, the upcoming game titled Dying Light: The Beast has grown into a full-fledged title instead, with Kyle Crane once again taking center stage. Originally conceived as additional content for the sequel, The Beast‘s scope expanded to justify its independent release, as announced in August by Techland.

It’s uncertain if Dying Light 2 will have another story expansion, but given the focus on The Beast, it might need additional engaging content soon. This could potentially involve Dying Light 2 collaborating with other franchises again, as it has done so in the past with titles like The Walking Dead and For Honor.

Dying Light 2 and Dead Island 2 Should Build Each Other Up Now That the Competition Has Died Down

The Dead Island series has consistently been Dying Light’s main rival, as both have frequently been compared due to their shared themes. Notably, Techland, the developers of Dying Light, were also responsible for creating the Dead Island franchise initially, indicating that the resemblances between these two intellectual properties extend beyond just their similar gameplay mechanics and undead environments.

The connections between these two IPs (intellectual properties) deepened following the releases of Dying Light 2 in 2022 and Dead Island 2 in 2023, as both series were rejuvenated close together after a near-decade-long hiatus. Now engaged in a similar struggle for dominance within the zombie survival genre, these franchises have since moved past their competitive phase. With time having passed, this period of competition subsiding makes it an opportune moment for a collaboration to materialize. Cross-over content featuring characters and possibly even locations from Dying Light 2 and Dead Island 2 could greatly enhance the post-launch gameplay experience for both titles, ultimately providing a contemporary link between two legendary figures in the world of zombie gaming media.
