Everything You Missed in the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Trailer

Star Wars is a hugely popular science fiction series known around the globe. It’s become even more popular since the first films came out, and now includes a wide range of movies, shows, and other content. A lot of fans especially love the animated Star Wars stories created by Dave Filoni, and a new trailer has just been released for what might be the last chapter in that part of the story.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a series focused on Maul ever since he appeared in Clone Wars, and now it’s finally happening thanks to Dave Filoni. While the first trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord was short on details, longtime fans have already seen enough to build excitement.

Darth Maul Is Finally Being Given His Own Solo Series After Years of Fan Outcry

Darth Maul instantly became a fan favorite after first appearing in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. His striking look and distinctive weapon made him a popular character in the Star Wars universe. Despite his popularity, he hasn’t had his own dedicated series – until now.

Throughout Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Maul repeatedly survives seemingly fatal injuries. His intense hatred appears to be what keeps him alive. Even after being cut in half in The Phantom Menace, he returns in The Clone Wars more powerful, though ultimately defeated again by the same Jedi. Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi is in hiding, very few people are strong enough to stop this dangerous Sith Lord.

Maul has been featured in most of the animated Star Wars projects created by Dave Filoni, with the exception of The Bad Batch. This makes a series focused on him a real possibility. The trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord suggests the show will connect the events of The Clone Wars and Rebels. If the series stays consistent with established storylines, it should be a success.

Because fans already know what happens to Maul, the show has limited story options. However, it will still deliver plenty of action and show Maul trying to regain his power after being left behind by Palpatine. The fact that the trailer reveals such amazing scenes suggests the series as a whole is going to be spectacular.

The Series Will Take Place In New Parts of Familiar Locals

Coruscant Might Play a Large Part in the Upcoming Series

Based on the trailer, most of the series seems to be set on the planet Coruscant. As one of the largest and most populated planets in the galaxy, Coruscant has many hidden layers that fans haven’t yet explored. While Coruscant appears in almost every Star Wars story, each project usually focuses on a different part of it.

The trailer features a battle on a lush, forested planet that fans believe is Kashyyyk, the home world of the Wookiees. We’ve only seen glimpses of Kashyyyk in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and the video game Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order. If Darth Maul were to hide on Kashyyyk, it would explain how he could establish a criminal network while remaining hidden from the Empire.

The Star Wars galaxy is incredibly vast, so the possibilities for new settings are endless. While some planets might share similar environments, they often have unique plants and creatures. We won’t know for sure where Maul establishes his base until the series starts.

As seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Maul eventually lands on the planet Dathomir, though how he arrived remains a mystery. The recent trailer briefly features a Dathomirian warrior, leading many to believe Maul could also become one in the new series.

The Crux of the Series Will Likely Follow Maul’s Struggle to Found the Crimson Dawn

The Trailer Makes it Clear that Jedi Aren’t the Only People Suffering

The show will likely feature both returning and new characters, though Darth Maul seems to be the only major one from the past. While several Inquisitors, like the Eighth and Eleventh Brothers, appear in the trailer, they probably won’t play significant roles. Because the show is set during a flexible period in the timeline, it’s hard to predict who else might show up in a cameo.

Most fans expect to see brief appearances from Darth Vader and the Emperor, and that’s likely accurate. The Emperor plays a key role in Darth Maul’s story, so it would be strange if they didn’t interact at some point in the series. While Palpatine may have a new apprentice, he’s still fiercely competitive and wouldn’t be pleased to see another Sith Lord rise in power.

As a big fan, I’m already getting a strong sense from the trailer that this show isn’t going to shy away from showing just how brutal Palpatine’s rule really was. And it’s interesting – Maul points out that the Jedi aren’t the only ones hurting under his reign. At first, you might think he’s talking about his own pain, but I think he means the whole galaxy is suffering. Basically, with Palpatine calling the shots, it seems like only he and his loyal followers actually benefit.

While a few familiar faces pop up briefly, the trailer confirms that Darth Maul will be the central character. The creators understand fans are primarily interested in his story. Though he isn’t a typical hero, Maul’s arc promises to be compelling, and it’s anyone’s guess what awaits him in what might be the final chapter of this interconnected series.

The Animated Series Might Provide an Epic Conclusion to Star Wars Beloved Animated Universe

There’s No Telling What Could Happen to the Filoni-Verse After Kathleen Kennedy’s Resignation

There’s no firm proof that Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will be the final project in the Filoni-verse, but it’s a likely possibility. With Kathleen Kennedy stepping down, Dave Filoni will likely shift into a more advisory role within Star Wars. This could mean he won’t have the bandwidth to lead major projects like those connected to his animated series.

The future of the series is unclear, though many fans are still hopeful. The ‘Filoni-verse’ seems to be the most reliable success story within Star Wars, so a strong finish would be logical. However, Disney tends to continue projects as long as they’re profitable, suggesting this series might not end soon.

The new series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, has the potential to be a huge hit with fans. Focusing on the popular character Maul, the show promises to explore how he built a second criminal empire – something fans have been eager to see. Many are hoping the animated series will live up to the high expectations surrounding this iconic character and the vision of creator Dave Filoni.
