The leader of Xbox Games Studio has explained the thinking behind releasing games made by their team on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
I remember when it was all about Xbox versus PlayStation versus Nintendo – those console wars were a big deal back in the 2000s! But things are changing now. Microsoft, the team behind Xbox, seems to be aiming for something different. They want Xbox to be about more than just the console itself. It’s kind of surprising, but they’re actually starting to release their games on PlayStation 5 and even the Nintendo Switch! It’s a big shift, and I’m curious to see where it leads.
Xbox recently revealed that the new Fable game and Forza Horizon 6 will both be available on PlayStation 5. Fable will launch on all consoles simultaneously, while Forza will first come to Xbox in May, followed by a PlayStation release at a later date.
The Head of Xbox Game Studios Discusses Multiplatform Release Strategy

In a recent Games Radar+ interview, Craig Duncan from Xbox Game Studios (XGS) explained that his top priority is getting Xbox games into the hands of as many players as possible.
When asked about varying game titles on different platforms, Duncan explained that while plans and circumstances can shift, they’re working to make future multiplatform releases more uniform.
Launching projects always comes with practical challenges – things like team size and initial plans. As you pointed out, plans can change during development, and sometimes existing strategies work, and sometimes they don’t. We understand this inconsistency is frustrating – you’ll see some games available in certain places, while others are available more widely. We appreciate this feedback and are committed to improving consistency in how we release games.
Ultimately, the Fable team just wants people who enjoy the game to recognize the hard work they’ve put into it. That’s always our main focus – simply reaching as many players as possible.

We’re curious to hear your thoughts on the recent trend of games being available on multiple platforms instead of being exclusive to one console, and what you think about the lessening of competition between consoles.
