Power Rangers is a long-running action series that’s still popular today. It started as an adaptation of the Japanese show Super Sentai, but it has since developed its own unique style. Usually, each team of Power Rangers is led by a Red Ranger who acts as the leader in fights. Over the years, some Red Rangers have been more effective and memorable than others.
It’s hard to compare Power Rangers based on strength because they’ve all had such different skills and faced unique challenges. Some Rangers fight monsters, while others battle villains of a different sort. For example, the Megaforce Red Ranger is a good defender of Earth, but he probably wouldn’t be able to handle the threats faced by earlier Rangers. This just shows that not all Red Rangers are equally powerful.
10. The Megaforce Red Ranger Has Classic Powers at His Fingertips
Power Rangers: Megaforce
Troy Burrows was one of the first teenagers to become the Red Ranger in the 2010s reboot of the series. However, his character isn’t very developed – he largely just fulfills the typical Red Ranger role and lacks much of the personality found in the original.
While Burrows can summon past Rangers, it doesn’t save the season because his character isn’t well-developed. Being the Red Ranger is great, but the show consistently demonstrates that the person inside the suit is what truly matters. If a more compelling character had been given the chance, Power Rangers Megaforce could have been a much better series.
9. Ninja Storm’s Red Ranger Uses the Element of Air
Power Rangers: Ninja Storm
While Shane Clarke, the Red Ranger from Ninja Storm, possesses considerable power, he’s not a particularly memorable character. Although he controls the element of air, he doesn’t quite measure up to the iconic Airbender from the popular Nickelodeon series. Sadly, Clarke’s time as the Red Ranger has faded into obscurity, overshadowed by issues from the actor’s personal life.
Clarke was a capable Red Ranger, but he didn’t quite reach the level of some other Red Rangers from previous seasons. While his design is visually appealing, he’s not particularly memorable, and he lacks the impressive weapons and upgrades that many popular Red Rangers have.
8. Beast Morphers’ Red Ranger Proves Power Rangers Is Back to Business
Power Rangers: Beast Morphers
Power Rangers Beast Morphers shows the franchise is heading in a positive direction, and its Red Ranger, Devon Daniels, embodies that improvement. While he performs his role well, he doesn’t quite stand out as exceptional. His suit and overall appearance are also a departure from the traditional Power Rangers leader designs.
While his suit resembles something from the game No Man’s Sky, Daniels isn’t as skilled as previous Red Rangers. He has some martial arts training, holding a brown belt in karate, but others have reached higher levels of mastery. Ultimately, another Red Ranger could typically outperform him. Unfortunately, the series moved on to a new team before he had a chance to fully demonstrate his potential.
7. Connor McKnight Gets His Spotlight Stolen From Tommy Oliver
Power Rangers: Dino Thunder
Connor McKnight isn’t a particularly memorable Red Ranger, but that’s largely because of the strong presence of the other characters. Power Rangers Dino Thunder was a final appearance for Tommy Oliver, so it’s understandable that McKnight didn’t stand out as much. Overall, Dino Thunder felt more like a revamped version of the very first Power Rangers series.
While McKnight’s Red Ranger has access to awesome dinosaur-themed Zords, he’s not the only Power Ranger with powerful Megazord abilities. McKnight performed well, but Tommy Oliver consistently stands out as the most impressive Ranger. If McKnight had more opportunities, he might rank higher, but it’s hard to compete with Tommy Oliver’s overall impact.
6. RPM Red Ranger is One of the Most Popular Rangers Ever
Power Rangers: RPM
The Red Ranger from RPM is a fan favorite, and for good reason. He’s notably faster than most other Rangers, and his suit design is really striking. RPM also equips its Rangers with cool, practical gadgets that they use effectively in fights.
As a lifelong Power Rangers fan, I always think of Scott Truman when I picture the ‘perfect’ Red Ranger. He really set the standard, and in a lot of ways, he’s the blueprint for how all Red Rangers should be. But honestly? While he’s iconic, I think a lot of Rangers – both before and after his time – were actually more popular and definitely more skilled. He’s great, but not untouchable!
5. Samurai Red Ranger Is the Best Modern Power Rangers Has to Offer
Power Rangers: Samurai
Jayden Shiba stands out as one of the most compelling Power Rangers ever. Initially unprepared for the role, he fully committed once he became the leader. He’s deeply devoted to his responsibilities as a ranger, prioritizing his duty above everything else. As the Samurai series progressed with a larger budget, Jayden also gained some impressive power enhancements.
As the Samurai Red Ranger, Shiba is a powerful fighter with exceptional swordsmanship skills, potentially the best among all the rangers. He also commands impressive Zords, including the Shark Zord. However, in a battle between all the rangers, Jayden wouldn’t likely be one of the first to fall, but he wouldn’t win either.
4. Jungle Fury Red Ranger Starts the Series With Serious Martial Arts Skills
Power Rangers: Jungle Fury
The Jungle Fury Red Ranger is potentially the most skilled martial artist of all the Red Rangers. He’s trained in various animal-based fighting styles, which make his already strong abilities even more powerful. Thanks to RJ’s guidance, Casey learned to fully control his skills, becoming a formidable fighter. Even though he starts as a beginner, he quickly gains the advantage in battles.
Casey is a skilled martial artist and has access to impressive equipment, including a variety of weapons and unique vehicles in addition to his Zord. While he might not be the most powerful Red Ranger, his design makes him one of the most visually striking.
3. Mystic Force Red Ranger Comes From a Powerful Magical Bloodline
Power Rangers: Mystic Force
Nick Russell is unique among Red Rangers because he possesses real magic. Originally born as Bowen in another world, he dedicates most of his time to protecting a mystical version of Earth from the villain Octomus. He’s also a highly skilled swordsman and has one of the most impressive power-ups of any Power Ranger.
The Red Dragon Fire Ranger is a standout design in the Power Rangers series. It perfectly balances fun and awesomeness, which is what the show is known for. Plus, Bowen, as this Ranger, actually defeats a powerful, otherworldly creature – something very few Red Rangers have accomplished.
2. SPD Red Ranger Overcomes His Origins To Become the Best
Power Rangers: S.P.D.
The SPD Red Ranger is a great example of someone who steps up and becomes a hero. He starts as a small-time thief, which isn’t typical for a space police officer, but he grows into the role and becomes a true hero by the end of the series.
You know, I’ve seen a lot of debate about the SPD Ranger suits. Some people think they strayed too much from the classic, campy Power Ranger look, but honestly, I find them wonderfully nostalgic. And speaking of SPD, Jack Landors? He’s easily one of the best Red Rangers ever. The stuff he went through, fighting all those threats mostly on his own, really makes his story stand out.
1. The Mighty Morphin’ Red Ranger is the Most Iconic For a Reason
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
For many Power Rangers fans, the original Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott, is the best. He set the standard for all who followed, and his portrayal still feels strong today, proving that even older shows can remain enjoyable. While the special effects are definitely cheesy by modern standards, the series had the potential to be truly exceptional with a larger budget.
Jason Scott is widely considered the defining Power Ranger, so it’s fitting he’s at the top of this list. Though he’s modest, he’s undeniably one of the most capable Rangers ever. He likely saved the Earth countless times.
