Hit the Jackpot — Borderlands 4’s DLC Vault Hunter Has a Golden Opportunity That Can’t Be Ignored

While Borderlands 4 started strong, it’s had trouble keeping players engaged long-term. The game’s open world is fun the first time through, but replaying everything can become repetitive. Controversial updates, underwhelming events like Horrors of Kairos, and a lack of compelling post-game content have all contributed to the decline in players. Luckily, a new expansion and a fresh Vault Hunter named C4SH are coming in early 2026 (January-March), which could bring players back. Even a single, enjoyable side activity could help improve the experience.

Details about the new Borderlands 4 character, C4SH, are still emerging, but he sounds fascinating. He’s a robot Vault Hunter with a Western theme, similar to FL4K. What makes him unique is that his abilities rely heavily on chance – players will roll dice to boost his skills. While he might remind some of Claptrap, C4SH appears to offer more rewards when luck is on your side. Interestingly, before becoming a rebel, C4SH worked as a casino dealer, which could mean the return of slot machines – a feature many fans have been hoping for!

What’s So Great About Borderlands’ Slot Machines?

Slot machines first appeared in the popular game Borderlands 2, and have been included in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 3 ever since. They work the same way in all three games: players can spend money for a chance to spin the reels and win prizes if they match three symbols.

  • Piles of money
  • Eridium
  • Character skins
  • Weapons of all rarity levels
  • A grenade that will instantly down players if they stand too close

As a longtime fan, I always loved trying for Legendary weapons on those slot machines in Borderlands. The wiki said there was only a tiny .02% chance of actually winning one, so it felt amazing whenever anyone did! Even if you didn’t get a top-tier gun, getting a cool skin for your Vault Hunter was still a win. Honestly, those machines really made Moxxi’s bars feel special – they were a big part of what made those hub areas so fun to visit. I was pretty bummed when I got to Kairos and found out they’d removed one of the activities, leaving only the tip jar. The tip jar is classic, but having both the machines and the jar meant there was always something to do. It doesn’t take long to get Moxxi’s exclusive guns from the jar, so bringing back another activity to chase would be fantastic!

When playing Borderlands 4 with friends, it’s helpful to have quick activities to do while someone else is managing their loot or taking a short break. Slot machines have always been perfect for this – you can play a few spins while waiting for your teammates. While Borderlands 4’s open world lets you continue playing even if a friend steps away, slot machines still offer a fun and different way to pass the time and rely on a bit of luck, providing a welcome break from the main action.

The Borderlands Science mini-game in Borderlands 3 was a fun way to pass the time, and its puzzles and rewards were really well done – it would be great to see it return in a future game.

C4SH’s arrival is a Perfect Avenue for Borderlands 4 to Introduce Slot Machines

As a long-time fan, I can’t imagine a better time to bring back slot machines to Borderlands! With a new character whose backstory is all about casinos coming soon, it just feels right. I’m picturing Gearbox adding them to places like Moxxi’s bar – that would be awesome! Or maybe this new character, C4SH, could have a special key to unlock them in each area, or even create them with his tech skills. Whatever they do, bringing back gambling alongside C4SH would be fantastic. It’s such a big part of who he is, and honestly, it feels like a core part of what Borderlands is all about too!
