Riot Games’ new game, 2XKO, is having problems with screen tearing on consoles. Players have been widely reporting the issue online, and some are saying they’ll stop playing until it’s resolved. A temporary fix has been found, but many players are still frustrated.
Okay, so screen tearing is this annoying thing that happens in games where the picture looks like it’s splitting horizontally. It’s super noticeable when the camera moves quickly, like the top and bottom halves of the screen don’t quite line up. Basically, it happens when the game is trying to show a new frame before the monitor has finished displaying the old one. It’s really common when my game is running faster than my monitor can keep up with, especially if I’ve turned V-Sync off. But honestly, it can happen at any speed if the timing is just off. Games don’t always run at a perfectly steady frame rate, and that makes it even more likely to happen. It’s just a visual glitch, but it can be really distracting!
2XKO Has Serious Screen Tearing Issues
Riot’s new free-to-play fighting game, 2XKO, is experiencing a common problem called screen tearing. Players began reporting this issue – horizontal lines appearing across the screen – shortly after the game launched on January 20th. It seems to happen most often on monitors with high refresh rates, particularly those at 120Hz, but it can occur on other displays as well.
2XKO Screen Tearing Can Reportedly Be Mitigated on Xbox, With Some Limitations
A Reddit user named Neoak recently discovered a way to reduce screen tearing in the console version of 2XKO, but it only works on Xbox. By enabling 120Hz output and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) in your Xbox display settings – and using a VRR-compatible monitor or TV – players can significantly lessen visible tearing. This works because the Xbox system handles high refresh rates even if the game itself doesn’t specifically support 120Hz, which helps to display frames faster and hide the syncing problems that cause screen tearing.
Neoak’s fix isn’t perfect. It needs specific hardware to work, might reduce display quality, and doesn’t always completely eliminate screen tearing. The core problem also remains because the game, 2XKO, initially launched without V-Sync to improve responsiveness. A real fix will likely need to come from Riot Games with an official update. Players are hoping this happens soon, during 2XKO Season 1, as many are waiting to play until the screen tearing is fully resolved.
Riot Has Yet To Officially Acknowledge 2XKO Screen Tearing
Riot Games hasn’t officially commented on reports of screen tearing issues in 2XKO. They did temporarily shut down ranked mode over the weekend of January 24th and 25th to fix several bugs that were affecting gameplay. It’s unclear if screen tearing was one of those bugs. Players have reported that even regular game modes weren’t consistently available during the maintenance, which has made it difficult to participate in the ongoing Caitlyn Champion Recruitment Event. However, players can still earn experience points by completing the tutorial.
