Best Starter Weapons in No Rest for the Wicked (& Where to Get Them)

Beginning your journey in No Rest for the Wicked can be challenging. You start with almost nothing – just worn clothes and a handful of healing items. Whether you find a weapon early on depends entirely on luck during your first exploration of Isola Sacra.

In No Rest for the Wicked, finding a good weapon at the beginning of the game relies a lot on luck. While there are merchants who sell weapons, their stock changes frequently. If you’re just starting out and want a solid weapon, here are our suggestions.

Which Starting Weapon Should You Get in No Rest for the Wicked?

Okay, so in No Rest for the Wicked, you don’t actually get to choose your starting weapon right away. You have to push through the Sacrament quest until you get to the Mess Hall in Mariner’s Keep. That’s where you’ll meet Filmore, the blacksmith. He’s got a bunch of basic weapons and gear for sale. I learned it’s actually better to buy from him here because later, when you get to the town of Sacrament, he has fewer options, and his stock keeps changing randomly. So definitely hit him up at the Mess Hall first!

The weapons Filmore has available in the Mess Hall change frequently, so you might not always find what you’re looking for. Luckily, all of his items can be used right away, even if you’re a new player, so don’t hesitate to stock up. We especially recommend checking out these items:

Weapon Stat Requirement Description
Scythe of Wretches Dexterity, Faith Can use Charged Attacks to perform wide, leaping slashes
Regal Cleft Strength, Dexterity A halberd with sweeping charged attacks and a strong, spinning Rune attack
Claymore Strength Slow but hard-hitting; Can use Charged Attacks to perform leaping overhead slashes
Blood-Rusted Sword Strength Versatile blade that’s good for all situations
Pig Sticker Dexterity A rapier used for quick, long-ranged thrusts and lunges with Charged Attacks and Dodge Attacks
Assegai Dexterity A spear meant for stabbing; comes with a Rune meant for dealing area damage
Short Bow Dexterity Basic bow with unlimited arrows and a close-ranged area Rune attack
Entwined Root Intelligence Wand that fires flame-based magic; deals good damage over time thanks to Burn inflictions
Woven Wraps Dexterity Fist weapons that use quick jabs and charged haymakers; comes with a Hadouken-style Rune attack

If you enjoy using Charged Attacks, we highly suggest checking out the Claymore and the Scythe. If those aren’t your style, the Blood-Rusted Sword and the Pig Sticker are great alternatives. If you can’t find the weapons you’re looking for from Filmore, consider starting a new Realm.

As you defeat enemies and open chests, you’ll find a variety of weapons, and the selection will continue to grow as you play. If you want to focus on getting new weapons without advancing the story or revisiting old areas, the Crucible is a great place to farm for loot.
