Both seasons of Solo Leveling have been incredibly well-made, and A-1 Pictures deserves praise for their work. The anime featured many memorable characters that fans will likely cherish. Sadly, several of these characters died, preventing them from continuing to impact the story.
Season 3 of Solo Leveling will likely continue the trend of characters facing fatal consequences, meaning we can anticipate several deaths. Here’s a look at who is expected to die in Solo Leveling Season 3.
This post contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.
Hwang Dong-soo
Affiliation: Scavenger Guild
- Killed by Sung Jinwoo
Hwang Dong-soo is a top-level Hunter from Korea. He’s motivated by a desire for recognition and wealth, which led him to join Thomas Andre’s Scavenger Guild. Hwang Dong-soo is known for being ruthless and isn’t afraid to use his power to get what he wants. He’s built a fearsome reputation by constantly exploiting his strength, so most people avoid him.
Hwang Dong-soo barely escaped a dangerous encounter with Sung Il-Hwan, and you’d expect he’d avoid Il-Hwan’s family – including Jinwoo – after that. But in season 3, he’s going to repeat the same error, and this time, it will be fatal.
Christopher Reed
Affiliation: USA
- Killed by Monarchs
Christopher Reed was a highly respected Hunter who fought in the battle against Kamish a long time ago. That’s why it’s so surprising to hear he was defeated, let alone killed. But as fans of Solo Leveling know, there’s always someone stronger out there, no matter how powerful a character seems.
Christopher Reed falls victim to a predictable storyline. In the third season, he’s attacked and killed by Sillad and Rakan, two incredibly strong Monarchs. He might have stood a chance against just one, but facing two of them was simply too much.
Sung Il-Hwan
Affiliation: Rulers
- Killed by two Monarchs
I remember learning about Sung Il-Hwan, the father of Jinwoo and Jinah. Everyone thought he’d died after getting trapped in a gate, but it turned out he was still alive – he actually showed up in the first season of the anime! It’s been a while, and as far as I know, he still hasn’t returned to Korea to reunite with his family.
Season 3 will probably show Sung Il-Hwan meeting Jinwoo in Japan, but under tragic circumstances. Il-Hwan will be severely injured after bravely delaying two powerful Monarchs, Sillad and Rakan, just long enough for others to react. This encounter is expected to be a very difficult and emotional experience for Jinwoo.
Kandiaru
Affiliation: Shadow Monarch
- Killed by Sung Jinwoo
Kandiaru, also known as the Architect, created the System to meet the Shadow Monarch’s requirements. He supported the Monarch and assisted in locating a host. Though absent from the first two seasons, Kandiaru will appear soon, likely during the adaptation of the Double Dungeon Arc in the upcoming third season.
Kandiaru is going to fight Sung Jinwoo to see just how powerful the hero has become. The Architect, who is observing, wants to determine if Jinwoo is ready to become the host for the Shadow Monarch. The battle will be long and difficult, with Kandiaru initially being the stronger fighter. However, Sung Jinwoo will ultimately win, and the fight will be so one-sided that Kandiaru likely won’t survive.
Yuri Orlov
Affiliation: Russia
- Killed by a Giant
Yuri Orlov is a highly skilled Hunter from Russia, ranked as S-class, and he’ll play a key role in the upcoming crisis in Japan. He’s motivated by money and will take on any job if the price is right. In the story, Japan’s leaders hire Orlov, offering him a huge sum to defend the country against monsters appearing from a powerful new Gate. They’re turning to him because the recent disaster on Jeju Island left their own top-level Hunters weakened and unable to handle the threat alone.
Yuri Orlov was sure his defenses were strong enough, but he was wrong. Instead of typical monsters, giants emerged from the gate, easily smashing through his barriers. They then killed and ate Yuri Orlov.
Sung Jinwoo
Affiliation: Ahjin Guild
- Killed by Monarchs
Sung Jinwoo is the central character in Solo Leveling, so it would be strange if he died before the story finished. However, he does temporarily die during a battle with Rakan, Sillad, and Querehsha. Facing even one Monarch is incredibly difficult for most characters in the series, making a fight against three a truly overwhelming challenge.
During a battle, Sung Jinwoo seemingly died, but instead, he was reborn as the powerful Shadow Monarch. This transformation dramatically increased his abilities, allowing him to easily defeat even the strongest enemies, known as Monarchs.
