Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake’s Difficulty Will Vary for ‘New-Style’ and ‘Legacy’ Modes

As a long-time Metal Gear Solid fanatic, who has spent countless hours crawling through the shadows and sneaking past guards in these iconic games, I am thrilled to hear about the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The fact that the game will offer two distinct perspectives – ‘New Style’ and ‘Legacy Style’ – is a testament to Konami’s commitment to honoring the series’ roots while also catering to newer players who might find the original difficulty level daunting.

In a recent announcement, the creators at Konami have shared that the challenge level in the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will vary based on the perspective of the players.

During a chat with Famitsu (through VGC), game producers Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado delved into the two fresh viewpoints for the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake: ‘New Style’ and ‘Legacy Style.’ They also hinted at how the challenge level will differ in these two play modes.

Korekado mentioned that an intended feature for the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake was player-controlled switching between different game modes. However, this feature was ultimately removed due to a design choice where the challenge level adjusts based on the player’s perspective. In simpler terms, he meant that they opted not to include the feature because the game becomes easier or harder depending on how the player is looking at it, so they chose to exclude it from the final version.

In a broader, straight-forward perspective, having Snake’s ability to move while aiming and shoot simplifies the challenge of the New Style. On the other hand, if the challenges for both New Style and Legacy Style were equalized in Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, the Legacy Style would be excessively difficult. Consequently, the developers opted to separate these two modes.

In the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, the Legacy Style will emulate the challenge of the original game, while the developers will rework the New Style’s difficulty level completely.
