State of Decay 3 Is “Coming on Well,” Says Xbox Games Studio Head

Craig Duncan, who leads Xbox Games Studio, recently shared an update on how development of State of Decay 3 is progressing.

State of Decay 3 was originally announced in July 2020. We haven’t seen much about it since, with the last update being a short gameplay trailer in 2024. Recently, Craig Duncan has shared that he’s had a chance to play the game and that Xbox Games Studio is still excited about its potential.

State of Decay 3 is ‘Coming on Well’

After the Xbox Developer Direct, GamesRadar+ asked Duncan about potential updates or gameplay reveals for the next State of Decay game this year. While he didn’t directly answer, he mentioned he’s been to the studio multiple times recently and is still optimistic about the future of the open-world zombie series.

I’ve visited that studio several times over the past six to eight months. I’ve had the chance to play the game with the team on multiple occasions, and it’s progressing very nicely.

After watching the Xbox Developer Direct, it felt like Craig Duncan was really concentrating on Fable and what’s coming up for Xbox, especially in 2026. It seemed like that’s where his main focus was at the moment.

He admitted their approach to releasing games on platforms other than Xbox hasn’t been consistent. This is happening as they implement a new marketing plan focused on letting players enjoy Xbox games anywhere. You can find his full statement here: [link]
