Nintendo recently shared more information about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during a Nintendo Direct presentation. They announced the movie will now be released on April 1st, a bit earlier than originally planned. The presentation also included a trailer with a first look at some of the new characters featured in the film.
As a huge fan of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I’ve been so excited for the sequel! The first one did unbelievably well – over $1.36 billion! – and it looks like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is on track to be just as big. Nintendo dropped the first trailer back in November, and we found out Benny Safdie would be Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson would voice Rosalina, which was awesome. Now, with the movie coming out soon, they’ve given us another sneak peek at this new animated adventure!
Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Reveals First Look at Yoshi
A recent Nintendo Direct presentation focused on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie included a new trailer and an exciting update: the film will now be released on April 1st in the US and other key countries. Originally slated for April 3rd, this means fans can see the movie a couple of days sooner! The trailer also gave everyone their first official look at characters like Yoshi, Birdo, Mouser, Lakitu, and both Baby Mario and Baby Luigi.
The trailer opened with Mario and Luigi riding bikes through a desert landscape that looked like Tostarena from Super Mario Odyssey. They arrived to fix a plumbing problem inside the Inverted Pyramid, and along the way, they met Yoshi. The trailer officially showed what Yoshi will look like, confirming earlier leaks. At first, Yoshi seems a little shy, but he quickly joins Mario and Luigi’s team.
The latest trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie not only showed off Yoshi, but also introduced Birdo and Mouser, characters originally from the NES game Super Mario Bros. 2. While their parts in the movie aren’t fully known yet, the trailer showed Birdo seemingly as a villain, battling Peach with eggs. We also saw Lakitu attacking Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, who then quickly escaped through a pipe. Quick glimpses of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi were included as well.
The upcoming Mario movie is heavily inspired by Super Mario Galaxy, but the latest trailer also reveals elements from Super Mario Odyssey. We see locations like the Sand Kingdom, with its Tostarena town and flipped pyramid, and a massive T.rex similar to the one from Odyssey‘s Cascade Kingdom. The trailer also features Luigi in a frog suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, which he uses to defeat a giant Cheep Cheep.
Nintendo didn’t show any new clips of Bowser Jr. or Rosalina, two of the film’s main characters. However, Chris Meledandri from Illumination announced that the animation is finished. The movie is now in post-production, with the team concentrating on sound and music. Brian Tyler is composing the score, which will include music from the Super Mario Galaxy games and will be recorded with a 70-piece orchestra.

It’s going to be exciting to learn more about The Super Mario Galaxy movie before it comes out. Luckily, with April 1st just over two months away, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see it in cinemas.
