Just days after announcing a major company restructuring, Ubisoft is now planning to reduce its workforce.
A recent report indicates that Ubisoft plans to reduce its workforce in Paris by as many as 200 positions. The company is utilizing a process called a ‘Rupture Conventionnelle Collective,’ which allows for voluntary separation agreements with employees.
Ubisoft currently employees 1,100 people at its Paris office.
Following last week’s announcement about changes to how the company operates and efforts to cut costs, Ubisoft is considering a plan that could lead to up to 200 employees voluntarily leaving their positions at its French headquarters. A Ubisoft spokesperson told IGN that the company is discussing a collective agreement for this to happen.
Ubisoft states that this is currently just a plan, and a final decision depends on reaching an agreement with its employees. After that, the plan needs to be approved by French officials.
According to Ubisoft, this proposal only affects employees of Ubisoft International who are under French contracts. It won’t change anything for other Ubisoft teams in France or around the world.
Honestly, I’m really worried about potential layoffs at the company. While they haven’t said exactly how many jobs might be cut over the next couple of years, looking at what’s happened in the past, I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw another 2,000 or more people losing their jobs. It’s a scary thought, and I’m hoping they can avoid making such big cuts.
On January 21st, Ubisoft announced a major company reorganization. As part of this, they cancelled six games, including the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Ubisoft also divided its teams into five separate groups, each responsible for different game series.
