New Evidence Points to Major Starfield Update in 2026

Rumors are swirling that a significant 2.0 update for Starfield might be coming soon. Evidence suggests Bethesda privately demonstrated the patch to some content creators and journalists last year. While Bethesda hasn’t confirmed anything, reports from insiders indicate this major update could address criticisms and revitalize the space RPG.

As a long-time Bethesda fan, I was SO hyped for Starfield – their first brand new game in 25 years! It’s been over two years since it came out, but honestly, I was pretty disappointed, and I wasn’t alone. While some critics liked the exploration and story, a lot of us fans felt let down. Looking at Steam reviews right now, it’s still considered ‘mixed,’ with a lot of players calling it boring or just… okay. The biggest complaints I keep seeing are about all the loading screens, how empty a lot of the planets feel, and a story that just didn’t grab us. Sadly, the Shattered Space DLC didn’t really fix things either – it actually got even worse reviews than the main game! It’s a shame, because I really wanted to love it.

Starfield’s Rumored 2.0 Update Likely Coming This Year

Even though some people have criticized Bethesda’s newest role-playing game, the studio continues to support it with updates. It’s been almost six months since the last patch, but it appears a large 2.0 update is in the works. Rumors about this update started late last year, and now there’s even more proof it exists. MrMattyPlays, from the Defining Duke podcast, says he was shown the update last year. He explained that Bethesda allowed him to confirm the update is real, but asked him not to share any details about what’s included. The studio also hasn’t announced when the update will be released.

Rumors about a big update to Starfield have been circulating for a while. Back in December, reports suggested Bethesda was planning a major patch for 2026, but the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Some sources say this update could be as substantial as the 2.0 patch for Cyberpunk 2077, which drastically improved that game’s skills, combat, AI, and weapons. However, other insiders caution that the Starfield update might not be quite as extensive.

With so much talk about an update, many fans hoped to see Starfield at the 2025 Game Awards. Despite hints from Bethesda about exciting plans for the year, the event ended without any news about the game’s future, leaving fans disappointed. Although a 2.0 update is likely coming, Bethesda hasn’t announced when they’ll officially share details.

Back in September, during the second anniversary celebration of Starfield, Bethesda hinted at a surprise. A brief error in the thank-you video seemed to show the words “Terran Armada.” Fans thought this might be a clue about a second downloadable expansion, which Bethesda has confirmed is coming, but the company hasn’t shared any details yet.

I’m really hoping we get a PS5 version of Starfield! There’s been a lot of talk about it possibly happening alongside a big 2.0 update and a second expansion. If all of that actually comes true, it would be incredible for the game and could really give Starfield the boost it needs to get everyone playing again.
