Highguard is now live, and players are excited to jump in! However, some are experiencing login problems. Because the game uses Easy Anti-Cheat, there could be a few technical difficulties preventing you from playing this sci-fi PvP shooter.
Having trouble starting up Highguard? This guide covers the most frequent boot errors and provides fixes for each one. Check the list below to see if we can help you get playing!
How to Fix Secure Boot Launch Error (Easy Anti-Cheat)
Many players are running into a problem that’s linked to a setting in their computer’s BIOS called Secure Boot. If this setting isn’t turned on, players need to restart their computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing the F2 key during startup). Once in the BIOS, they should navigate to the Security section and enable the Secure Boot option.
To enable UEFI Mode, go to the ‘Boot Configuration’ tab in your BIOS settings and make sure the ‘Compatibility Support Module’ (CSM) is turned off. After saving this change, allow your computer to restart.
If your computer’s BIOS doesn’t support Secure Boot, you’ll likely need to use the Windows Recovery environment. Here’s how to proceed:
- Go to Settings, then Update & Security
- Go to Recovery and select Restart now under Advanced startup.
- On the next screen, select Troubleshoot
- Go to Advanced options, then UEFI Firmware Settings
- Restart to make changes.
This update addresses the Secure Boot Launch Error caused by recent Easy Anti-Cheat versions. If you’re still experiencing problems, it could be due to one of the following reasons:
File Integrity Checkup
Sometimes, game files don’t download correctly, causing problems. If you played earlier test versions of the game, those old files might also be interfering with the current version.
To make sure your game files aren’t corrupted, open Steam, go to your Library, right-click on Highguard, and select Properties.
To fix potential issues, open Steam’s Properties, then go to the ‘Installed Files’ tab. Click ‘Verify Integrity of Game Files’ to begin a scan. Once the scan is complete, restart Steam.
Before you begin, please close any Steam programs running in the background. Open Task Manager and end any processes named “Steam Client Bootstraper” or similar.
Easy Anti-Cheat Incompatibility (Older Version Installed)
Image by Wildlight Entertainment If you continue to experience issues or see an ‘Easy Anti-Cheat Incompatible Version’ message, completely uninstalling all versions of Easy Anti-Cheat is the recommended solution.
First, find the Easy Anti-Cheat uninstall option in your Programs and Features list (also known as Add or Remove Programs). Then, uninstall the game and download it again. This will ensure Anti-Cheat installs correctly this time.
Reinstall The Game When A New Version Comes Out
If you’ve tried everything and are still having problems, reinstalling the game after the developers release their initial update is likely the best solution. These errors often occur because of conflicts between the game and your computer’s software or hardware.
Unfortunately, the best thing to do right now is wait for a game update that includes a fix for this launch error.
