This is How Resident Evil Requiem Will Run on PS5 Pro

Capcom’s Akishi Nakanishi shared that Resident Evil Requiem will offer extra options and features on the PlayStation 5 Pro. As the February 27th release of the ninth main Resident Evil game approaches, Capcom is revealing more details. Along with gameplay additions like the return of ink ribbons and confirmation that Leon will be playable in the campaign, Capcom has now explained how the game will perform on the PS5 Pro.

Despite Capcom’s attempts to keep it under wraps, fans long suspected Leon S. Kennedy would be a major character in the new Resident Evil Requiem. The recent trailer at the 2025 Game Awards confirmed these suspicions – Leon will not only be in the main story, but players will be able to control him for roughly half of the game. Capcom designed Leon’s gameplay to focus on action-packed moments, while the other protagonist, Grace, will handle the more traditional survival-horror sections. Players with a PlayStation 5 Pro can expect several visual and performance improvements when the game launches.

Resident Evil Requiem PlayStation 5 Pro Features

In a recent post on the Japanese PlayStation Blog, Resident Evil Requiem director Akishi Nakanishi explained how the game will take advantage of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Players will have the option to turn Ray Tracing on or off. When enabled, the game will run at 4K resolution with a smooth 60 frames per second. If Ray Tracing is turned off, players with compatible displays can achieve even higher frame rates, potentially reaching 120 FPS, with an average of 90 FPS. Nakanishi also mentioned that Capcom focused heavily on optimization, to the point where 60 FPS now feels somewhat limited.

Capcom is also leveraging the PlayStation 5’s unique features in the new game, beyond the PS5 Pro. The DualSense controller’s haptic feedback will allow players to actually feel what’s happening – like the sensation of being grabbed or bitten. The adaptive triggers will also make each weapon feel distinct, with different levels of resistance and feel when reloading. Even puzzles will be more immersive, as players can feel and hear the objects inside the controller, such as the rattling of jewels in a spinning box.

Resident Evil: Requiem returns to the series’ roots in Raccoon City. Capcom is trying to strike a balance between scary moments and action-packed gameplay. The game features two main characters: Grace, who is inexperienced in combat and emphasizes the horror aspects as she struggles to survive, and Leon, who offers players more resources to fight back and provides a breather from the intense fear. Despite this balance, the developers believe Requiem will still be a bit more frightening than the previous game, Village.

Recent leaks suggest that Capcom might be planning downloadable content (DLC) for Resident Evil 9 that connects to the story of Resident Evil Requiem and its link to Outbreak. A known Resident Evil insider, Dusk Golem, mentioned rumors of a DLC featuring Alyssa Ashcroft, a character from Outbreak and the mother of a character in Requiem. This is surprising because trailers for Requiem appeared to show Alyssa’s death. While the Resident Evil series often includes DLC with new story content, Capcom hasn’t announced any official plans yet, so fans will have to wait for more information.
