This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Final Saga.
The anime and manga series One Piece is now focused on the Elbaf arc, which is a very important stepping stone towards the story’s epic conclusion. Many believe this arc will lead directly into a massive war. Fans estimate that the story is about halfway through Elbaf, and things are expected to become even more intense as it progresses.
As the current story arc unfolds in One Piece, fans are learning more about the world’s history and getting surprising twists involving characters like Imu. At the same time, the author, Oda, is introducing incredibly powerful new characters – some appear even stronger than the Pirate King. Oda previously established Roger as one of the most powerful fighters ever seen, with only a few others at his level. Now, Oda has introduced King Harald of Elbaf, a character who surpasses even Roger in strength.
Gol D. Roger Became The Strongest By The End Of His Journey
- Roger canonically got stronger after God Valley
- Roger’s peak came around 25-30 years ago in One Piece
Gol D. Roger is widely considered one of the strongest characters in the One Piece world. Many believe he was second only to Joy Boy in terms of sheer power. Around 26 years ago, Roger achieved the title of Pirate King, having already reached the height of his abilities as a pirate.
Gold Roger, known as the Pirate King, achieved everything the world had to offer – riches, renown, and influence. This is the story of his incredible success.
Long before the current story, Roger was a new pirate, and a formidable figure named Rocks D. Xebec also sailed the seas. Many believe Xebec was incredibly powerful, possibly even more so than Roger at the time. Thirty-eight years ago, at a place called God Valley, Roger and Garp teamed up to defeat Rocks. The author later confirmed that everyone who fought at God Valley went on to become even stronger, and over the next ten years, Roger rose to become the most powerful pirate of his generation.
I remember hearing tales of Roger, a truly incredible powerhouse. Even Whitebeard, who could supposedly level mountains, was considered his equal. It became clear Roger was the strongest around during his era. Whitebeard only earned the title of ‘World’s Strongest Man’ after Roger passed away. It’s rare to see anyone even approach Roger’s strength, but in the recent flashbacks, King Harald of Elbaf has shown he was right there with him – a truly remarkable feat.
King Harald Was Even Stronger Than The Pirate King

- Imu and Five Elders confirm that Harald became a weapon of mass destruction
I remember when King Harald first appeared – he was already a force to be reckoned with. Back then, 109 years ago, people were terrified by his power, seeing him as a true monster. But if that was impressive, it was nothing compared to how strong he became over time.
I’ve heard Oda compare Harald’s power to that of Rocks D. Xebec – apparently, they were quite the pair. They were both friends and rivals, constantly battling each other, but their fights usually ended without a clear winner. I even read that their very first fight was so destructive it completely wiped out all life within a 5-kilometer area. It really highlights just how unbelievably strong both of them were.
It’s amazing to think about how close Harald and Rocks D. Xebec were in strength, but things really changed after Harald got the Deep Sea Covenant from Imu. That Covenant gave him incredible power – way beyond even what he had before, boosting his strength, healing, and even granting him immortality! The downside? He basically became Imu’s puppet, losing his own free will. It all came to a head fourteen years ago in Elbaf, at Aurust Castle. Imu made Harald go wild, and honestly, at that moment, he was far more powerful than even the Pirate King himself!
Imu Confirmed Harald Should’ve Been Unbeatable
The fact that Harald is even more powerful than the Pirate King is confirmed by two characters, including Imu. In One Piece chapter 1171, the world’s ruler explicitly described Harald as a being far beyond human strength. He was already at the level of Rocks, but Imu then gave him a special gift – a covenant – which made him even stronger, able to regenerate, and immortal.
Imu questions if a force truly exists on Elbaf capable of defeating Harald, expressing disbelief that anyone could have stopped such a powerful being.
Furthermore, Harald possessed the lineage of the ancient giants, making him uniquely powerful. He was a force of destruction, and Imu was stunned to discover someone capable of opposing this disaster actually existed.
Scopper Gaban, Roger’s first mate, also confirms Harald’s incredible power. Gaban personally battled Harald and wounded him repeatedly, but even with his mastery of Supreme King Haki – a rare ability meant to suppress healing and even defeat immortals with enough force – he and Shanks couldn’t stop him. Gaban claims that if Harald had left Aurust Castle 14 years ago, he would have destroyed the world, a claim made by someone who was Roger’s most trusted ally.

Looking at powerful characters like Rocks, Roger, or Whitebeard, none of them reached this level of strength. Ultimately, it was Loki who managed to defeat him.
Loki’s Devil Fruit Helped Defeat King Harald
- Loki wields Elbaf’s legendary Devil Fruit
- Its powers could even harm Imu
Ultimately, Loki’s Devil Fruit was the key to defeating Harald. Neither Shanks nor Gaban could beat him in a fight, and Loki himself couldn’t win without it. It was only by consuming this powerful, legendary Devil Fruit that Loki gained the unique ability needed to finally overcome Harald.
Loki is undoubtedly one of the strongest characters in One Piece. It’s exciting to think about what Eiichiro Oda has planned for him and how his full abilities will be revealed.
Loki’s Powers Remain Shrouded In Mystery
Currently, the exact nature of Loki’s Devil Fruit power is unknown. We do know it’s a Mythical Zoan type, allowing him to fly and grow sharp claws. Many fans believe his power is based on the Nidhogg dragon from Norse mythology, but it remains to be confirmed if this is actually the case.
Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, One Piece, follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the legendary treasure, the One Piece. The story is currently in its final arc. A new chapter, 1172, will be released in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump. It will be available on February 1, 2026, at midnight Japan Standard Time (11:00 AM Eastern Time / 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app, which directly supports the author.
