Ubisoft Employees Vote to Strike Against Proposed Layoffs

Workers at the French video game company Ubisoft have voted to strike from February 10th to 12th, 2026, in a unanimous decision by their unions.

Ubisoft recently announced a significant company restructuring that will involve closing some studios and reducing its workforce. The first round of layoffs has begun, with plans to cut 200 jobs at their Paris office. In response, French labor unions have voted to strike and are working with unions in other countries.

Ubisoft Strike to Take Place this February

Several Ubisoft worker unions – including the Video Game Workers’ Union (STJV), Solidaires Informatique, CFE-CGC, CGT, and Printemps Écologique – have announced a joint strike from February 10th to 12th, as reported by Les Echos. They also intend to work with unions around the world to bring attention to their concerns.

Workers are striking due to new cost-cutting measures. The company plans to reduce expenses by €200 million over the next two years, and is also tightening its rules for remote work. These changes are likely to lead to job losses, with the company already offering voluntary severance packages. Up to 20% of employees at Ubisoft’s main office and 5% of its total workforce in France could be affected.

Ubisoft’s recent changes have already resulted in the cancellation of several games, including the long-awaited Prince of Persia Remake, and five others. Going forward, the company will concentrate on creating large, open-world games and experiences designed for ongoing live service, with work divided among five creative teams. These changes have unfortunately caused a significant drop in Ubisoft’s stock price.
