LEGO recently unveiled a Millennium Falcon set expected to be the highlight of their new Smart Play series, and it’s already generating excitement among collectors. However, some fans are disappointed that the set doesn’t include a ‘Smart Brick,’ and they feel this is a negative decision by LEGO.
LEGO’s Smart Play platform was first revealed in June 2024, but the first products weren’t officially released worldwide until January 2026. These initial sets were Star Wars themed and included three kits: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter (75421), Luke’s Red Five X-wing (75423), and Throne Room Duel & A-wing (75427), priced from $70 to $160. All three will be available starting March 1. LEGO also announced five more Star Wars sets compatible with Smart Play on January 27, and these will launch as part of the same March 2026 release.
LEGO’s New Millennium Falcon Smart Play Set Doesn’t Include the Smart Brick, and It’s Not the Only One
Fans quickly pointed out that the new Star Wars LEGO sets don’t include the LEGO Smart Brick, even though the sets were advertised as being compatible with it. This has upset many collectors, particularly those looking at the $100 Millennium Falcon (set 75426), which is the most expensive of the new releases. One Reddit user, Ehsteve23, explained that because the Falcon is likely to be the most popular set, people may feel pressured to buy multiple copies if the Smart Brick isn’t available separately.

Some LEGO fans are upset about how the company is handling its new ‘Smart Bricks.’ They feel LEGO is only including them in less popular Star Wars sets to encourage people to buy more. While what makes a set ‘less desirable’ is a matter of opinion, LEGO hasn’t said if it will sell the Smart Bricks on their own, which is what many fans want. Some believe LEGO could have avoided the issue by including a Smart Brick in every set, especially when the technology first launched. One Reddit user, Deathrattlesnake, pointed out that including a Smart Brick in every initial set would have created more excitement and avoided confusion for customers.
Previously Revealed LEGO Star Wars Sets That Will Actually Ship with a Smart Brick
- 75421 Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter – $69.99, 473 pcs.
- 75423 Luke’s Red Five X-wing – $89.99, 581 pcs.
- 75427 Throne Room Duel & A-wing – $159.99, 962 pcs.
LEGO is planning more sets that use their ‘Smart Play’ technology, but won’t include the actual ‘Smart Bricks’ themselves. While five new Star Wars sets are coming soon without these bricks, most of the upcoming LEGO Pokémon sets are also expected to follow suit. Currently, only one set – 72164 Pikachu’s Training House – is rumored to include a Smart Brick, although this set hasn’t been officially confirmed. Leaks about Pikachu’s Training House have been circulating since late 2025.
You’d expect the first products featuring a new technology to include a sample item in every package, to build excitement and encourage adoption.
One problem with LEGO’s first Smart Play sets is that they won’t be available everywhere. LEGO is initially only releasing them in six countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Poland, and Australia. It’s unclear when these products will be sold in other parts of the world.
