Minecraft Reveals New Item and Baby Mobs for Next Game Drop

Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, recently announced a new item called the golden dandelion, which is sure to delight players who love baby animals in the game. They also shared that even more baby versions of creatures are coming to Minecraft, and players can try out these updates now through Java snapshots and the Bedrock beta/preview programs.

Mojang is kicking off 2026 with exciting new content for Minecraft. Although the name of the update hasn’t been announced yet, they’ve given players a sneak peek: adorable baby animal mobs! Minecraft already features baby versions of many creatures, but these new designs are extra cute and clearly different from the adults. Redesigned wolves, kittens, chicks, and other baby animals are already winning over fans, with some even hoping there was a way to keep their favorite creatures tiny forever.

Minecraft’s New Golden Dandelion Can Keep Baby Mobs Young Forever

Good news for players who love baby animals in Minecraft! Mojang is adding a new item called the golden dandelion that stops baby mobs from growing up. Just give the flower to a baby animal to keep it small. You can craft golden dandelions after you’ve successfully bred two mobs for the first time – the recipe uses one regular dandelion and eight gold ingots. If you later want your mob to grow up, simply give it another golden dandelion!

New Versions of Aquatic Baby Mobs

  • Baby squid
  • Baby glow squid
  • Baby dolphins
  • Baby turtles

Mojang has announced even more adorable baby animals are coming to Minecraft! Players will soon be able to find baby axolotls (in five different colors!), baby squid, baby glow squid, baby dolphins, and baby turtles. The baby turtles are especially small and love to munch on seagrass. You can try out these new baby mobs now through the Java snapshot and Bedrock beta/preview versions. The golden dandelion is currently only available for testing on Java, but Mojang plans to add it to the Bedrock version soon. Mojang encourages players to test these features and share their feedback to help make the final update the best it can be.

The latest updates for Minecraft suggest the next release will be packed with exciting features. Players who love mobs will be especially happy with the new baby mob variations, plus additions like craftable name tags and golden dandelions. Developers are still testing new content, so expect even more surprises before the official launch!

We’ll have to wait and see what Mojang plans for their next game update in 2026, but that hasn’t stopped fans from suggesting new creatures. One player even designed a ‘Baby Ender Dragon’ mob, including a detailed egg concept. While it’s probably not something Mojang will add to Minecraft, a lot of players thought it was a cool idea.

I’m really hoping we don’t have to wait too long to find out when the next update is coming! Last year, Minecraft dropped four big updates throughout 2025. If the developers keep up that pace, we might see the adorable new mob update land in the next few months. Fingers crossed!
