Dogecoin Founder Might Be “Underwhelmed and Disappointed” by Satoshi Identity Reveal

As a seasoned crypto investor and a fellow meme enthusiast who has followed the Dogecoin journey since its inception back in 2013, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism regarding the upcoming HBO documentary promising to reveal the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Billy Markus, a key figure in developing Dogecoin – the meme-based cryptocurrency launched with Jackson Palmer in 2013, recently expressed his anticipation on his social media account (previously well-known as Twitter) regarding the upcoming HBO film. He hinted that he would unmask the enigmatic figure behind Bitcoin‘s creation – Satoshi Nakamoto.

It is worth noticing that Dogecoin was made as a joke on Bitcoin, using BTC code as a basis. Besides, Markus is known on X as “Shibetoshi Nakamoto” – another joking reference to the Bitcoin creator’s pseudonym.

Polymarket users bet Len Sassaman was Satoshi

While waiting, data from Polymarket shows that users are placing wagers about who Satoshi Nakamoto truly is, as hinted by the upcoming HBO documentary. It appears that 75% of these wagerers believe that Satoshi could potentially be Len Sassaman, a cryptographer and privacy advocate. As per popular belief, Sassaman passed away tragically in early 2011 – only two months following Satoshi’s farewell post on the BitcoinTalk forum, where he mentioned his plans to work on different projects.

As a crypto investor, I’ve been intrigued by the ongoing mystery of who Satoshi Nakamoto truly is. Len Sassaman, a well-known figure in the cypherpunk community, who passed away in 2011, is rumored to be the next candidate to be unmasked as the real Satoshi Nakamoto, according to Polymarket. If reports by Politco are accurate, an upcoming HBO documentary set to air on Tuesday will allegedly reveal more about this fascinating tale. I can hardly wait!

Consequently, it appears that Billy Markus is not anticipating any significant new insights from the documentary. The documentarians spoke to numerous individuals, including Adam Back – a well-known cryptographer who communicated with Satoshi prior to the Bitcoin release.

Markus waits to be “underwhelmed and disappointed” by HBO film

On numerous occasions, Back has refuted claims that he is the creator of Bitcoin, often referred to as Satoshi. Samson Mow, a former Chief Strategy Officer at Back’s company Blockstream and current CEO of JAN3, also appeared in the movie. He articulated his reasons for thinking that Back isn’t Satoshi, citing significant differences in writing style. However, Mow posits that the similarities between certain Chinese characters in Satoshi’s name and the word “China” aren’t just a coincidence.

Billy Markus has often been questioned if he’s Satoshi Nakamoto, but he always responded with sarcasm to dismiss such theories. Recently, in a tweet, Markus expressed: “I can hardly contain my anticipation for being underwhelmed and let down by the HBO Satoshi documentary.

In summary, during the latest discussion, Adam Back highlighted that Satoshi Nakamoto ceased using his alias in 2011. He suggested, “Given the current state of information, I believe we may never discover who he was, and that’s a positive aspect.

so it’s almost definitional: anyone talking with them is not satoshi. qed.
