One Piece: Every Power-Up Unlocked By Sanji Yet to Be Featured in Games

As a long-time One Piece fanatic who’s been sailing through the Grand Line since its very beginning, I can’t help but feel that our beloved chef Sanji has been underrepresented in the video game adaptations of this epic series. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always a treat to see Black Leg Sanji kicking butt across various platforms, but there’s so much more to his power set that remains unexplored.

Spoilers for Whole Cake Island Arc and beyond

Among the fearsome Straw Hat Pirates, Vinsmoke Sanji stands out as one of its members. Similar to his fellow crewmates, Sanji has undergone significant emotional and mental growth throughout the One Piece series. Moreover, he’s harnessed immense power by mastering Haki and Diable Jambe techniques. However, not all of Sanji’s abilities have been fully demonstrated in the numerous video game adaptations of One Piece.

Now that the Wano Arc and the Whole Cake Island Arc of One Piece have concluded in both manga and anime, it’s quite plausible that elements related to Sanji’s powers from these arcs will be incorporated into a video game adaptation. Similarly, since Sanji played a significant role in both storylines, the same could apply to his abilities in the game. In these arcs, Sanji enhanced his power repertoire with a new formidable power-up and expanded one of his signature moves.

This article concentrates on the abilities of Sanji in primary One Piece video games, excluding his appearances in spin-off titles such as Jump Force and Roblox’s Square Piece.

The Enhancements of Germa 66’s Raid Suits

During the tales of Zou and Whole Cake Islands, it emerges that Sanji did not originate from East Blue, instead hailing from the North. He is in fact, the third-born son of King Vinsmoke Judge and a prince of Germa. Despite being subjected to experimental treatments while still in their mother’s womb, designed to create cold, emotionless killers, Sanji and his siblings possess extraordinary power. As part of the powerful Vinsmoke family, they further augment their abilities by utilizing specialized suits within their super group, Germa 66.

As a gamer immersed in the world of One Piece, I’ve noticed that the Raid Suits in this epic series come packed with some nifty features. For instance, they’re designed to withstand fire and bullets, thanks to their fire-resistant material and bulletproof capes. The boots on these suits even have accelerators on the heels for swift movement and flotation devices in the soles for water navigation. What makes them truly special is their ability to amplify the user’s inherent powers – something Sanji demonstrates effortlessly when he crushes a Raid Suit canister with a single stomp, showcasing that even his feet, his most potent weapons, are no match for his raw strength.

It was believed that Sanji’s abilities were dormant, as suggested by the severe abuse his family inflicted on him due to this belief, and also by Sanji himself. However, despite being considered powerless, a raid suit was crafted for Sanji by Germa 66. Eventually, he finds the canister containing the raid suit, but initially refuses to use it until he reaches Wano.

What Soba Mask Offered to Sanji

Slipping into my black Raid Suit, I find myself stirring the latent effects that Judge’s experiments inflicted upon me and my mother during our time in utero. This attire empowers me with an unprecedented ability to fly and amplify the force behind each kick from its propelled boots. Just like the others who wear this suit, I’ve been granted a special augmentation: the power of invisibility.

During the Onigashima raid, Sanji employs his newly acquired invisibility ability to catch his enemies off guard and later sneaks out Nami, Robin, Shinobu, and Kozuki Momonosuke. Upon noticing that the suit resembles a fictionalized Germa 66 from the “Sora, Warrior of the Sea” comic series, Sanji realizes this. Instead of christening his raid suit form Stealth Black, like its comic counterpart, he opts against it and chooses to be known as 0-Soba Mask. Eventually, he demolishes the canister containing his raid suit, further distancing himself from Germa and his biological family.

Soba Mask’s Possible Future in One Piece Games

In One Piece: World Seeker, Luffy’s raid suit is presented as downloadable content that you can wear, but wearing it doesn’t give him any extra abilities. This aligns with the mainline One Piece games released post-Whole Cake Island, where characters don’t get additional powers from cosmetic items.

In mainstream One Piece games, Soba Mask hasn’t received the same level of attention as titles like World Seeker or Odyssey, which means there’s a lot of untapped potential in Sanji’s backstory. The invisibility feature of his Raid suit could make for an amazing ultimate ability in combat games or serve as a valuable recon tool in games more similar to One Piece Odyssey.

Ifrit Jambe Burns Bright

In the world of video games, not only are the abilities of Germa 66 a part of Sanji’s power set that hasn’t been fully translated, but one particular expansion of one of Sanji’s iconic moves, “Diable Jambe,” has yet to be included in any game. While his move “Diable Jambe” is commonly featured in both mainline One Piece games and those featuring him outside the franchise, its counterpart, “Ifrit Jambe,” remains unadapted.

Following the activation of Sanji’s dormant skills by the raid suit, he embraced these newly acquired abilities as he simultaneously destroyed the suit. By blending these freshly gained talents with his existing ones, Sanji crafted innovative moves from his Black Leg style, retaining its distinctive charm. Ifrit Jambe now emits a more intense and scorching flame compared to Diable Jambe. By integrating his exoskeleton with Armament Hiki, Sanji’s legs can endure the blazing blue flames of Ifrit Jambe better than the fiery red of Diamble Jambe. Additionally, his boosted speed and the force behind his kicks amplify the potency of Ifrit Jambe.

Moving forward in the “One Piece” mainline games, instead of only featuring Germa 66’s raid suit, It would be beneficial to include Ifrit Jambe as part of Sanji’s power set. This isn’t just due to its increased power compared to his previous abilities, but because it aligns more with the frequency at which Sanji is expected to use this new power in the storyline. The introduction of these new powers signifies a change in Sanji’s character development, and it’s important for video game adaptations to reflect and honor this transformation.

The saga of One Piece continues unabated, leaving open the possibility that Sanji’s power might develop further. However, future video game versions of this series ought to reflect these evolutions, particularly given one of its strongest characters.
