Every Game Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Developer Grezzo Has Made

As a long-time Nintendo enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that Grezzo has consistently impressed me with their diverse and innovative portfolio of games. From their early work on Line Attack Heroes to their more recent contributions to The Legend of Zelda franchise, this development studio has shown an exceptional ability to adapt and innovate within the ever-evolving landscape of video games.

The much-awaited “Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” is among the most exciting Switch releases of the year. Instead of Link, Zelda takes center stage as the main character in this game. Although “Echoes of Wisdom” was unveiled just a few weeks ago during the Nintendo Direct in mid-June, anticipation for the game has been building steadily. It’s only natural that fans are eager to discover how this new approach might influence Hyrule, Link, and Princess Zelda’s tale.

Among Nintendo’s most cherished series, “The Legend of Zelda” stands out as one of the company’s top-selling intellectual properties, surpassed only by Mario, Pokemon, and the Wii series. With great anticipation building for “Echoes of Wisdom”, fans might wonder about the past projects of developer Grezzo. Since its establishment almost two decades ago, Grezzo has worked on a diverse range of titles.

A Look Into Grezzo’s Past Projects

Grezzo, a company founded in December 2006, saw Koichi Ishii, an acclaimed Japanese game designer famed for creating the cherished Mana series, assume the roles of CEO and president in 2007. During his tenure at Square, now known as Square Enix, Ishii played a pivotal role in shaping the action RPG genre, leaving a lasting impression on the gaming industry. In subsequent years, Grezzo was involved in developing numerous high-profile titles, such as remastered versions of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, and a reimagining of Luigi’s Mansion.

Grezzo’s Standout Games Over the Years

Grezzo’s initial creation, titled Line Attack Heroes, was launched in 2010 as a beat-em-up game on the WiiWare platform, which no longer exists. This game offers a thrilling blend of swift melee combat and strategic elements, allowing players to manage a line of warriors to execute attacks with the Wii Remote. During gameplay, players must intelligently cluster their warriors to overcome enemies and collect fragments of a crystal dragon.

Despite not having an official international launch, “Line Attack Heroes” gained recognition through a fan-made translation that became available in October 2021.

2011 was a significant year for Grezzo, as they dedicated their efforts to revamping the 3D version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 3DS. They managed to upgrade the visuals while preserving the original’s endearing qualities, creating an impressive remake. In addition, during that same year, Grezzo also re-created the multiplayer game The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition, which was converted for play on the Nintendo DSi.

Following some time, Grezzo came up with numerous unique ideas, such as StreetPass Garden, a gardening game influenced by Gregor Mendel’s theories on gene segregation, and Ever Oasis, an RPG for the 3DS that combined town-building features with action-RPG elements. The year 2023 saw the introduction of Jet Dragon, another original creation that allowed players to raise and race dragons as well as incorporate horse racing mechanics. Appearing to be tailored for mobile gamers, it can be played on iOS through Apple Arcade.

Furthermore, the company continued to bolster Nintendo’s renowned franchises, starting with a remake of the original 1993 Game Boy hit, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Five years later, they introduced The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, an innovative entry in the Zelda franchise’s side games. Featuring a unique storyline and distinct gameplay mechanics, Echoes of Wisdom distinguishes itself from previous titles while still honoring the themes and lore of its predecessor, Tears of the Kingdom.
