In the survival crafting game Echoes of Elysium, players build, battle, and explore on a customizable Airship. One of the first things you’ll need to do is craft Sails, but the game doesn’t clearly explain how to attach them to your ship, which can be frustrating when you’re just starting out.

How to Unlock Sails Blueprint in Echoes of Elysium

To build a Sail in Echoes of Elysium, you first need to unlock the Invention Desk and the recipes for Makeshift Airship Pieces. You’ll automatically unlock these recipes once you collect Wood, Plant Fiber, Liftium Shards, and Broken Parts.

Players can find resources on the floating stone islands near the starting area. They can also collect them while gliding (press and hold Spacebar), as Liftium and other materials appear in small clouds drifting through the air.

Head back to the ship and construct a basic deck, remembering to leave room for the Invention Desk. Then, place the Invention Desk on top of the deck and cover it with a curved airship piece. This will create a roof over the desk, which is required for it to function.

First, talk to the Invention Desk to learn how to make a Crafting Bench and a Crude Sail. Next, place the Crafting Bench and build a roof over it. Use the Crafting Bench to create Burlap Cloth and Burlap Rope from Plant Fibers. Finally, use Broken Parts to craft a Strut.

With all the elements ready, it’s time to craft their first Sail using:

  • 1x Strut
  • 2x Burlap Cloth
  • 2x Burlap Rope
  • 2x Wood

Carefully position it over the ship’s hull, ensuring it doesn’t hit any workbenches or other structures. Otherwise, it will be damaged each time it’s used.

Keep in mind that the game is still under development, so you might encounter some glitches, especially with how things bump into each other. Airships are easily damaged if they collide with anything, and Floating Mines will instantly destroy a basic Airship, so proceed with caution!

Now that your sail is up, you’re ready to begin exploring the ruined world of Echoes of Elysium. Your first goal is to find the Lighthouse and the Dry Dock, which are located north of where you start. Simply head straight ahead from your starting position at full speed, but be careful to avoid the floating rocks and mines!

Once you unlock the Dry Dock, you’ll have more options to customize your airship. Use this to your advantage and create a powerful vessel!
