Xbox Game Pass is Bringing Out Some Hidden Gems This October

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Xbox Game Pass has truly outdone itself this October! The line-up is brimming with some of the finest Indie games ever created, and I can hardly contain my excitement.

2024 has been another strong year for the Xbox Game Pass subscription service from Microsoft, despite some quieter months earlier in the year. Last month was particularly impressive for both Xbox and PC Game Pass subscribers, with high-quality first-party games like Age of Mythology: Retold, along with third-party titles such as Frostpunk 2, being added to the service on their respective release dates.

The September 2024 line-up for Xbox Game Pass was filled with eagerly awaited, big-name releases. Although October 2024’s line-up doesn’t boast as many day-one launches, it’s introducing some of the top Indie games from the past few years to Xbox, PC, and Cloud platforms instead.

Xbox Game Pass’ October 2024 Line-Up Is Filled With Must-Play Indie Games

Open Roads – Available on Xbox Game Pass Now

Despite not receiving as much critical acclaim as the two games mentioned below, “Open Roads” remains a captivating Indie game worth experiencing, particularly since it’s now accessible via Xbox Game Pass. Primarily a walking simulation, the gameplay of “Open Roads” is relatively straightforward, but its narrative is compelling and skillfully conveyed through hand-drawn scenes that unfold after examining objects within the environment.

The movie, titled “Open Roads“, narrates the journey of Tess and her mother Opal, embarking on a road trip aimed at uncovering their familial ties. Despite the robust narrative in “Open Roads“, it’s the captivating portrayals by Kaitlyn Dever and Keri Russell that truly bring the story and its dialogue to life. However, some critics found the gameplay of “Open Roads” overly simplistic. Nevertheless, the majority appreciated the game’s central relationship and its thought-provoking domestic themes.

Sifu – Available on Xbox Game Pass Now

Among the games listed here, Sifu stands out as one of the most recognized Indie titles, yet it warrants an even wider fanbase. Sifu, a third-person action game, offers a captivating blend of strategic Soulslike combat and swift beat-em-up sequences. The creators at Sloclap have effectively combined their expertise gleaned from 2017’s Absolver, resulting in an enhanced, engaging gameplay experience that leaves players eager for more in a positive manner.

Despite the challenging nature of Sifu’s combat, it is fair and offers rewards for those who grasp its game mechanics thoroughly. One of Sifu’s strongest aspects is its artistic direction, which enhances the intensity of its fast-moving battles. Additionally, Sifu includes numerous challenge levels that were added post-release, catering to newcomers with a variety of content to explore. Now available on Xbox Game Pass, there’s no excuse not to experience one of 2022’s top Indie games.

Inscryption – Available on Xbox Game Pass October 10

Initially overlooked upon its release in October 2021, the game Inscryption has now begun to receive the acclaim it truly merits. Notable for its resemblance to deck-builder games such as Slay the Spire, Inscryption offers several distinctive features. What particularly distinguishes Inscryption from its peers is its intense horror ambiance.

Although it’s essentially a card game, Inscryption can be quite unsettling at times, featuring a found-footage style, challenging boss battles that are downright brutal, and eerie visuals that keep you tense throughout. If you’re looking for horror games on Xbox Game Pass for the upcoming spooky season, Inscryption is an excellent choice, becoming available on the subscription service on October 10.
