Grounded 2 Reveals Roadmap for 2026 Updates

Obsidian Entertainment has launched a significant update for its Early Access game, Grounded 2, titled the Toxic Tangle. This update adds a wealth of new content and unveils the game’s development plans through 2026. Like the original Grounded, Grounded 2 puts players in a shrunken world – Brookhollow Park – where they must survive on their own or with friends. The sequel features a new story, enemies, and gameplay features, while keeping the core elements that players enjoyed in the first game.

Similar to the first Grounded game, Grounded 2 launched in Early Access in the summer of 2025 and has been steadily improved with significant updates. Although the game is still in development for a while, Obsidian Entertainment continues to expand on its strong survival and base-building features. Recent updates have added new enemies, areas to discover, and plenty of fresh content. Obsidian has also shared a 2026 roadmap, giving players a preview of what’s coming next for the game.

Grounded 2 Releases 2026 Content Roadmap

Obsidian Entertainment recently updated the launch roadmap for Grounded 2, reflecting the changes made during the game’s development and after several updates. The Playgrounds update, previously planned for the “Winter Update,” will now be released separately from the Toxic Tangle content. This release will also add support for the Steam Deck and Xbox ROG Ally.

This new plan builds on the original by giving players a clearer view of what’s coming in the Spring and Summer Updates, and beyond. The Spring Update looks substantial for Grounded 2, introducing a new area called the Black Anthill, plus new armor, weapons, and improvements to gameplay, including Buggy Mutations. There will also be more resources available for building bases. Some details are still hidden, so players will have to wait for the update’s release to learn more.

Okay, so I’m hyped for the Summer Update! It looks like we’re getting a brand new area to explore, though they’re keeping the details under wraps for now. From what I’ve heard, Summer’s going to be all about the water – they’re finally adding a water vehicle system for our buggies, plus underwater bases and creatures! Looking further ahead, Obsidian is planning a big rework of the mutations system, and honestly, just more of everything – more buggies, enemies, bosses, gear, and stuff to build with. The roadmap doesn’t say when Grounded 2 will officially launch, which makes me think it’ll be in Early Access for about two years, just like the first Grounded game.

As a huge fan, I’m still eagerly awaiting the full launch of Grounded 2, but Obsidian just dropped a massive update called Toxic Tangle that’s seriously exciting! The backyard just got a whole lot bigger with the new Community Garden – it’s full of vertical climbing spots, secret paths, and some scary new threats, so you’ll definitely want to be prepared. They’ve added a bunch of new creatures too, like Earwigs, Potato Beetles, and Woolly Aphids. And get this – Obsidian is hinting that The Masked Stranger is coming back, and we’re going to have to face off against the terrifying Snake Colossus! I can’t wait!

This update for Grounded 2 introduces more than just a new area and enemies. It also organizes mutations into active and passive types. Passive mutations are automatically applied depending on your weapon, while active mutations work as before. Players can now build with new materials like mushrooms, pumpkins, acorns, and scales. Based on player feedback, we’ve added floor hatches, and those with the Founder’s Pack will find even more options, including the High Roller’s Dice Bag and Champion’s Banner.
