When the game Dispatch was released for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on January 28th, players noticed that character nudity was censored. Unlike other versions, the Nintendo versions don’t offer an option to turn the censorship off – it’s automatically applied.
Originally released for PC and PlayStation 5 in October 2025, Dispatch is a story-driven adventure game played across eight episodes. In the game, players control Robert Robertson III, also known as Mecha Man, who works as a dispatcher helping former supervillains get their lives back on track through the Phoenix Program. Dispatch features a star-studded voice cast, including Aaron Paul (known for Breaking Bad), popular Critical Role actors Laura Bailey and Matthew Mercer, and well-known online personalities Jacksepticeye and MoistCr1TiKaL.
Dispatch’s Nintendo Ports Made Visual Censorship Mandatory
Players discovered a difference in the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game Dispatch: a visual censorship feature is automatically enabled and can’t be turned off. While the PC and PlayStation 5 versions allowed players to choose whether or not to use visual censorship (which adds black bars to cover nudity or suggestive gestures), the Switch and Switch 2 versions don’t offer this option. Interestingly, the option to filter out profanity is still available on the Nintendo systems, letting players choose whether or not to hear explicit language.
So, it turns out the changes everyone noticed in Dispatch weren’t just random. The developers, AdHoc Studio, explained they worked with Nintendo to tweak some stuff to get the game approved for both the Switch and the new Switch 2. Basically, each platform – like Nintendo, PlayStation, etc. – has its own rules about what it allows, and they have to go through the approval process separately for each one. It’s not a one-size-fits-all situation.
Throughout the game Dispatch, players can choose a romantic interest for Mega Man, with Invisigal and Blonde Blazer as the main options. This romantic choice is central to the plot of the fourth episode, which originally featured a provocative scene that was significantly changed for the Nintendo versions. The Nintendo ports included black bars and removed both the audio and dialogue from this scene to meet Nintendo’s content standards. The original, uncensored scene remains in the PS5 and PC versions of Dispatch. Despite these changes, Nintendo’s censorship didn’t require any episodes or important story elements to be cut. The upcoming Switch 2 version of Dispatch will also offer better performance with improved frame rates and higher resolution graphics compared to the original Switch release.
Nintendo’s Censorship Policies Are Not Consistent
This isn’t the first time Dispatch has faced censorship by Nintendo. Back in December 2025, observant fans noticed that the cover art for Dispatch‘s Artbook and Comics Pack DLC had been altered on the Nintendo eShop. Specifically, the swimwear worn by characters like Malevola and Blonde Blazer was made more modest in the eShop version compared to the PS5 and PC releases of the same DLC.
Despite Nintendo’s content restrictions, some games still offer full character customization, including nudity, similar to versions on other platforms. For example, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Switch 2 allows this. It remains to be seen how Nintendo’s policies will affect how players receive the game Dispatch on the eShop.
