If you enjoy playing The Sims 4, it’s a good idea to back up your game and saved files before February 3rd. Upcoming changes to the game might cause issues, especially for players who use modifications (mods).
This year, The Sims 4 celebrates its 12th anniversary, and it’s seen a lot of development since its release. Through numerous expansions and content packs, the game has gained new features, gameplay options, and worlds to discover. However, these updates haven’t always been perfect and have sometimes caused issues with saved games. With the release of its 21st expansion pack approaching, players have been given a warning about potential problems.
The Sims 4 Warns Players to Save The Game
Electronic Arts (EA) is advising players of The Sims 4 to back up their game files before February 3rd. An upcoming update to the base game will improve how family trees, ancestry, and relationships work. This update is being released ahead of the new Sims 4 Royalty and Legacy expansion pack, which comes out on February 12th. EA’s testing suggests the update might cause issues with save files for players who use mods. While those playing the game without mods likely won’t have problems, EA always recommends backing up your game regularly.
How to Back Up The Sims 4 Saves
Backing up one’s game from The Sims 4 is pretty easy to do.
On PC:
- Navigate to My Documents in the File Explorer.
- Access the Electronic Arts folder.
- Select The Sims 4 folder.
- Right-click on the folder and select copy.
- Navigate to a different file location, outside of Documents, and paste The Sims 4 folder.
On Mac:
- Open Finder from the Dock
- Open the Documents folder
- Open the Electronic Arts folder
- Select The Sims 4 folder
- Using Command and C, copy the folder
- Navigate to the home screen or another file location and press command and V to paste the backed up version.
To avoid confusion, it’s best to rename any copied folder as a backup, ideally including the date. This makes it easy to find if you ever need to restore your Sims 4 game save.
Okay, so I’m getting ready for the new Sims 4 update, and EA is advising us to take out any family mods we have – things that mess with how families work or change the rules. Apparently, the mod creators are going to let us know when their stuff is working again after the update drops. The good news is EA actually gave them a heads-up about the code changes, so they can start fixing things before the update even comes out! Hopefully, that’ll make the whole update process smoother for everyone and we won’t have to wait too long for our favorite mods to be working again.
