Strongest One Piece Villains Who Could Team Up With Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy, the central character in One Piece, has faced many villains throughout his adventures. What sets him apart from other heroes in similar stories is that he rarely kills his opponents. He believes it’s a more powerful defeat for them to live with the knowledge that they’ve failed to achieve their dreams.

It’s common for Luffy’s enemies to deeply dislike him. However, there have been times when villains have actually worked with Luffy, joining forces to achieve a shared objective.

6. Charlotte Katakuri

Affiliation: Big Mom Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: Mochi Mochi no Mi
  • Haki: Yes

Charlotte Katakuri is the most powerful commander under Big Mom, second only to Big Mom herself. His Devil Fruit, the Mochi Mochi no Mi, lets him create and manipulate mochi however he wants. On top of that, he’s mastered all three types of Haki, and is especially skilled in Advanced Observation Haki, giving him the ability to see into the future.

The fight between Luffy and Katakuri in the Whole Cake Island arc was truly impressive. Both pushed themselves to their absolute limits, and while Luffy ultimately won, it was a very close battle. Throughout the fight, a clear mutual respect developed between them. Because of this, it’s possible they could become allies in the future if their goals align.

5. Crocodile

Affiliation: Cross Guild

  • Devil Fruit: Suna Suna no Mi
  • Haki: Likely

Crocodile is a co-founder of the Cross Guild, alongside Dracule Mihawk. A seasoned pirate with decades of experience sailing the seas, he’s gained deep knowledge of Haki and Devil Fruits. He uses this understanding to create clever traps, allowing him to easily defeat his enemies.

Crocodile possesses the Suna Suna no Mi, a powerful Devil Fruit that allows him to control sand completely. He can create and shape sand however he wants. While Crocodile usually prefers to work alone, he’s shown in the past that he’s open to alliances. He even teamed up with Luffy before, suggesting he might do so again if the situation calls for it.

4. Koby

Affiliation: Marines, SWORD

  • Devil Fruit: No
  • Haki: Yes

Koby completely transformed his life after enlisting in the Marines. Once shy and weak, he became a strong fighter thanks to training with the famous Garp the Fist. Like his teacher, Koby possesses incredible strength and skill. He’s mastered Rokushiki techniques and Haki, which together have allowed him to win many crucial battles.

Koby’s fans recognize how much he owes Luffy, who rescued him from Alvida’s ship. However, even though he’s grateful, Koby insists he’ll oppose Luffy if he has to. Koby is dedicated to helping people everywhere, but he won’t blindly follow the World Government’s orders. If Luffy were to openly challenge Imu and the other leaders of the World Government, Koby would definitely support him.

3. Donquixote Doflamingo

Affiliation: Donquixote Family, Shichibukai (Formerly)

  • Devil Fruit: Ito Ito no Mi
  • Haki: Yes

Doflamingo once ruled the kingdom of Dressrosa, but Luffy overthrew him. After his defeat, Doflamingo was imprisoned in Impel Down. Because he knows secret information about the World Government and Marijoa, they’ve repeatedly tried to kill him, but Magellan has managed to keep him safe.

While it seems improbable that Doflamingo would join forces with the person who defeated him, anything is possible in the world of One Piece. It’s best not to dismiss the idea completely. Plus, Luffy could really benefit from an ally as powerful as Doflamingo, especially since he’s mastered his Devil Fruit and all forms of Haki.

2. Blackbeard

Affiliation: Blackbeard Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: Yami Yami no Mi, Gura Gura no Mi
  • Haki: Yes

Marshall D. Teach, or Blackbeard, is a hugely powerful pirate and one of the four strongest pirates in the world. He’s famous not only for his strength, but also for being incredibly clever. What sets him apart is his ability to outsmart opponents, and he’s not afraid to retreat if a fight isn’t winnable.

Blackbeard is a ruthless fighter who inflicts terrible suffering on his enemies. He’s incredibly powerful, combining the powers of two Devil Fruits – the Yami Yami no Mi and the Gura Gura no Mi – giving him a significant advantage in battle. While Blackbeard and Luffy are likely to clash, they might actually team up if they were both facing a common enemy like Imu and the World Government.

1. Smoker

Affiliation: Marines, World Government

  • Devil Fruit: Moku Moku no Mi
  • Haki: Yes

Smoker is a Vice Admiral with a strong, ongoing rivalry with Luffy. He’s been relentlessly pursuing Luffy ever since the pirate escaped him in Loguetown. However, Smoker hasn’t been featured much in the story since the Punk Hazard arc, leaving fans unsure of his current power and goals. As a result, he’s mostly remembered for his past performances.

Considering everything, Smoker is likely more powerful than many Vice Admirals, largely due to his Devil Fruit, the Moku Moku no Mi. As a Logia-type, it allows him to become smoke, making most attacks ineffective unless they’re infused with Haki. While Smoker can also use Haki, he isn’t as skilled with it as Luffy. Despite being rivals, Smoker and Luffy share similar values and will fiercely protect those they care about. Given Smoker’s dislike of the World Government’s leadership, he could potentially ally with Luffy if he ever opposes them.
