Dragon Ball fans have been waiting a long time for news, and the recent updates are fantastic! The series will return with an adaptation of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga from the manga, and a fresh look at the God of Destruction Beerus Saga is also planned.
The Super anime began with a retelling of the popular Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie, known as the God of Destruction Beerus Saga. However, this initial arc felt rushed and wasn’t very well-executed, despite the quality of the original movie. Almost every part of the saga faced criticism, but the introduction of the character Beerus offers hope for improvements in future storylines.
Better, More Consistent Animation
Many fans commented on the animation quality of this story arc. While the movie version looked great, the anime adaptation didn’t measure up. Viewers weren’t accustomed to such noticeably lower quality animation in Dragon Ball. Although the original series and Z had animation errors that are often forgiven due to nostalgia, this arc, featuring the God of Destruction Beerus, was frequently a visually disappointing experience.
Now that Beerus is coming back, fans are hoping Toei Animation will make a truly impressive return to form. The updated version of the story is being rebuilt with improved animation and visuals, and everyone is eager to see if they’ll address some of the original’s biggest flaws.
Improved Pacing
One major difference between the anime and the movie is pacing. While the anime’s Beerus Saga, despite only being 15 episodes, felt drawn out to many viewers, the movie tells the same story in a much more focused and concise way. The contrast is significant.
It was expected that the anime adaptation would differ from the movie and be longer. However, many fans found the added length to be boring and lacking quality. The initial fight between Goku and Beerus, for example, is stretched out over four episodes, which feels too slow and immediately hurts the arc’s pacing. If the new version can make these added scenes more impactful and improve the overall flow, it could significantly improve the viewing experience and make the arc feel worthwhile.
Fight Choreography Needs Work
Modern anime adaptations of shonen series have delivered some truly amazing fight scenes, which makes it disappointing that Dragon Ball, the show that started it all, often feels lacking in that area. The original Dragon Ball anime used to stand out with its well-choreographed fights, where every strike and energy blast felt impactful and meaningful.
The battles in the God of Destruction Beerus Saga, despite featuring the universe’s strongest fighter, Beerus, often feel too similar and basic. A remake should make each fight more unique and detailed. If the creators can do this, even the most critical Dragon Ball fans are likely to enjoy the new version.
The Super Saiyan God Ritual
A big point of contention among fans of the Dragon Ball series was how Goku achieved Super Saiyan God through a special ritual. It feels like a strange, one-off event that the series never really revisited, leading many to question if it was a crucial part of the story.
Beerus probably won’t undo the ritual entirely, but it would be great if he could change it so the power-up feels more deserved. Making it something characters have to work for, rather than an easy and instant boost, would fit better with how other transformations have happened in the series.
Raise The Stakes
The original storyline has a problem: it doesn’t feel genuinely threatening. While we expect Goku and his friends to win eventually, the conflict with Beerus feels too predictable. Because Beerus is so much stronger than characters like Goku and Vegeta, it’s always clear the Earth won’t actually be destroyed, which takes away the suspense.
What happens after the fight with Beerus is already decided, but the story can still make him seem like a bigger threat. We know Beerus will eventually spare Earth and become interested in Goku and Vegeta, but the events leading up to that could be more dramatic and exciting.
