Being a Dragon Ball fan is great right now! The anime is back after a long break, and even though we’re still waiting for the manga to continue, fans are thrilled about the remake of the Beerus Saga and the upcoming adaptation of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga.
Following the intense Tournament of Power, the new ‘Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga’ shows what Goku and his friends get up to after their amazing victory over some of the most powerful fighters in the multiverse. Here’s a rundown of the strongest characters involved in this new saga, not including the already incredibly powerful characters like Beerus and Whis.
Seven-Three
Seven-Three isn’t the strongest fighter, but he’s incredibly adaptable. His main strength lies in his Copy Ability, which lets him mimic the skills of other fighters, making him a challenging opponent.
Despite sounding powerful, Seven-Three has some key weaknesses. He can only use copied abilities for thirty minutes, and he has to touch the back of a person’s neck to gain them. Plus, he can only maintain up to three abilities at any given time. He’s still a formidable opponent, and the anime will showcase just how special his fighting style is.
Gohan
Okay, so this story happens before Gohan really hits his stride as a superhero. That means we’re going to see a Gohan who’s still growing into his power, not the incredibly strong guy we all love from later on. It might be a little different for those of us who are thrilled to see Gohan back in action, but it’s awesome to see his journey unfold from the beginning!
Even when Gohan isn’t fighting at his peak, he’s still a formidable opponent. While he sometimes loses to stronger characters, he consistently demonstrates his incredible potential and hints at how powerful he could become with focused training.
Saganbo
Normally, Saganbo wouldn’t be worth paying attention to. As the leader of the Galactic Bandit Brigade, he’s not a major threat to Earth. However, Moro significantly increases his power, making Saganbo a surprisingly strong opponent, even though he doesn’t deserve the boost.
He’s proven capable of fighting Gohan, Piccolo, and the Androids, which isn’t meant to diminish their strength – it simply highlights how powerful Moro’s ability to absorb energy is. While Saganbo is surprisingly resilient for his initial power level, he ultimately can’t handle the massive boost Moro receives and is defeated rather quickly.
Vegeta
Vegeta is still a little weaker than Goku at this point in the story, but he’s steadily getting closer in power. Although he isn’t strong enough to defeat Moro on his own, he plays an important role throughout the arc and demonstrates significant improvement after the Tournament of Power.
After traveling to the planet Yardrat, Vegeta masters Spirit Control, a skill Goku previously learned. This training gives him a powerful new technique called Forced Spirit Fission, which is especially useful against Moro. It allows Vegeta to control energy and effectively counter Moro’s ability to drain life force. While he may still work alongside Goku, Vegeta demonstrates his impressive flexibility and skill as a fighter throughout this story.
Moro
As a Dragon Ball fan, I truly think Moro is the most compelling villain Super had until the Granolah arc! He’s not just some powerful fighter – though he’s definitely strong – but this incredibly gifted wizard, and the name ‘Planet-Eater’ is totally earned. You quickly understand why everyone fears him, and it’s so much more than just raw power. He uses magic in really clever ways to outmaneuver his opponents, which makes him a really unique threat.
Moro is a uniquely dangerous enemy who can’t be defeated with typical strategies. He’s incredibly difficult to beat because he steals life force, and things get even worse when he copies Seven-Three’s abilities, gaining access to powerful attacks like Ultra Instinct. While Goku and Vegeta eventually manage to win, it’s one of the hardest battles they’ve ever faced.
Goku
It’s always a safe bet that Goku will be a major player in every story arc. His extensive training and incredible ability to learn and conquer challenges make him one of the most powerful fighters in each saga.
Goku’s training with Merus helped him gain better control over Ultra Instinct, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Moro initially. Ultimately, Goku was able to overcome Moro by achieving his Perfected Ultra Instinct Giant Form, allowing him to quickly gain the upper hand and destroy Moro’s power source – the crystal on his head – finally ending the battle.
Merus
At first glance, Merus may not seem like a major threat, but he’s a surprisingly powerful fighter against Moro. As the Galactic Patrol’s strongest member, he’s perfectly capable on his own, and despite what you might think compared to characters like Goku and Vegeta, he’s actually the most powerful of them all.
Merus is an Angel in training, which makes him incredibly powerful – stronger than most humans, but not quite as strong as a fully-fledged Angel. This means he’s restricted from directly intervening in the affairs of mortals, which limits what he can do. He’s also a master of Ultra Instinct and has been a valuable teacher to Goku as he learns the technique. During the fight with Moro, Merus broke the rules by interfering too much, and was erased as a result. However, he managed to destroy Moro’s ability to steal power and gave Goku a significant advantage. Luckily, the Grand Minister brought him back to life, but as a regular mortal. Though he’s much weaker now, Merus was arguably the most important character in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga.
