Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies Can’t Let Wunderwaffe Be a Chekhov’s Gun

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies Can't Let Wunderwaffe Be a Chekhov's Gun

As a long-time fan of the Call of Duty series and particularly the Black Ops franchise, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and nostalgia when it comes to the upcoming release of Black Ops 6. The Liberty Falls map has me excited, with its classic round-based Zombies gameplay in a small West Virginian town. However, the absence of the iconic Wunderwaffe in the initial gameplay feels like a strange omission, especially after showing it off in the trailer.

The much-awaited video game titled Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled to launch on October 25, 2024. One of the most exciting aspects is the inclusion of the Liberty Falls Zombies map. This map will offer traditional Zombies gameplay in a quaint West Virginian town, and it’s been confirmed that both the Ray Gun and Jet Gun will be accessible via the mystery box. However, the noticeable omission of a significant weapon from the initial gameplay for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has sparked discussions among enthusiasts.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but hold onto hope that the enigmatic Wunderwaffe from the Liberty Falls trailer will somehow find its way into the gameplay. Despite the uncertainty surrounding its role, I remain optimistic that it might still surface in some form or another. However, it’s not impossible to imagine that this iconic weapon could be nothing more than an Easter Egg, a wink from the franchise to long-time fans, as they have occasionally done in the past with similar instances.

Why the Wunderwaffe Should Be in Call of Duty Black Ops 6

In Liberty Falls, both the Ray Gun and Jet Gun are stored in the Mystery Box. The lack of the Wunderwaffe in Call of Duty seems unusual, given its previous showcase. If it isn’t included in this map at all, there’s a chance it could be reserved for future maps or updates, although this may not provide immediate gratification for players eager to use it now.

It’s rather disheartening to think that it won’t be included in the game, especially since Black Ops 6 is linked to a camo in Call of Duty MWZ. This suggests that it wouldn’t require significant resources to incorporate it. The possibility of selling the camo and hinting at its presence in the trailer without actually making the weapon playable could be seen as a lost chance for the franchise, considering both fan satisfaction and marketing strategies.

Call of Duty Has Previously Teased Weapons That Never Made It

In the opening scene for Origins, found in Black Ops II, there’s a quick glimpse of the Olympia shotgun during the sequence. However, contrary to this initial hint, the Olympia is not a usable weapon within the game itself. This fact may come as a surprise given that the Olympia was often a starting weapon on earlier Zombies maps, such as Kino der Toten and Nacht der Untoten. Unfortunately, it was omitted from Origins.

In a similar fashion to Mob of the Dead (a level from Black Ops 2), the Python revolver is depicted during the introductory sequence with the main characters wielding it. However, much like the Olympia in Origins, the Python is missing from actual gameplay as well.

The Wunderwaffe Could Be Incorporated Through Easter Eggs

Including Wunderwaffe as part of an Easter egg mission, where players can journey down to the location where Richtofen was initially seen in the opening scene after finishing the main quest, could offer a delightful and fulfilling throwback reminiscent of the series’ tradition. In the context of Call of Duty Zombies, this Easter egg concept involves players solving complex puzzles to unveil hidden areas or weapons.

As a dedicated Black Ops fan, I can’t help but appreciate the intriguing prospect of rediscovering the Wunderwaffe, hidden away by Edward Richtofen and accessible only after an Easter egg event post-launch. This plot twist aligns beautifully with the existing Zombies lore, providing a narrative depth that fans like myself adore. The echoes of the Call of the Dead Easter egg, where the Wunderwaffe was unlocked as a reward, further heighten my anticipation. However, it’s essential to approach this news cautiously, given that clues thus far suggest the Wunderwaffe might not ultimately make it into the final gameplay. The franchise has a history of using single-trailer appearances as Chekhov’s guns that don’t always end up firing, after all.

Chekhov’s principle refers to a literary device coined by Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov. In essence, he advised that if an object or event is introduced in the early stages of a story, it should later play a significant role in the plot; otherwise, it’s best not to include it at all.
