Rumors recently surfaced suggesting that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 might be added to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library. However, Nintendo has officially responded to these claims, stating that neither game is currently planned for release on the service.
One of the biggest draws of the Nintendo Switch 2 when it launched in June 2025 was the addition of classic GameCube games to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Initially, only three titles were available: F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur 2. Since then, Nintendo has added five more GameCube games over the past seven months, including popular choices like Luigi’s Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, and, most recently, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
Nintendo Denies That Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 Are Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Walmart recently updated its website with a new advertisement for Nintendo Switch Online. The image featured classic games already available on the service, such as Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Tetris. Notably, it also included Pikmin 2 and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, two GameCube titles that haven’t yet been released on Nintendo Switch Online, and for which there’s been no official announcement of their potential inclusion.
Following the online leak at Walmart, Nintendo confirmed to IGN that the promotional image originated with them, but mistakenly included games not currently scheduled for release. Nintendo has removed the image from Walmart’s website and apologized for the confusion. While Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 aren’t available on Nintendo Switch Online right now, Nintendo hasn’t ruled out the possibility of adding them to the service in the future.
Okay, so that leak about GameCube games coming to Switch Online? Nintendo basically said it wasn’t true, and honestly, as a Metroid fan, I’m kinda relieved. When I first saw that list, I worried it meant they’d just stick Metroid Prime 2 on Switch Online as a classic game and forget about giving it the full Metroid Prime Remastered treatment. Now that Nintendo’s confirmed it’s not coming to the service right now, it feels like there’s still hope for a proper remake. I’d much rather wait for a beautifully updated Metroid Prime 2 than settle for an older version on Switch Online, you know?
Nintendo announced last April that Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Super Mario Sunshine would eventually be added to the GameCube collection on Nintendo Switch Online, but fans are still waiting for them. We’ll probably learn more about what’s coming to Nintendo Switch Online during the next Nintendo Direct presentation. While Nintendo hasn’t announced a date yet, they often hold Directs in early February. Industry insider Nate The Hate suggests a Direct could happen the week of February 2nd, possibly on Thursday, February 5th, though it’s unclear if it will be a general overview or a showcase of games from partner companies.
