The show is consistently excellent throughout its run. However, some viewers were left a little puzzled by the ambiguous timeline presented in the final episode.

Simon Williams is a hopeful actor facing unfair rules designed to keep people with powers from performing. He successfully hides his abilities until he meets fellow actor Trevor Slattery, and their lives quickly become complicated. The two form a close friendship and both achieve their acting dreams, but Simon discovers Trevor has been secretly working for the DODC, causing a major rift between them. Though Trevor ultimately protects Simon by taking the blame for something, Simon – known as Wonder Man – refuses to let that sacrifice go unanswered.

Throughout the series, Wonder Man focuses on concealing his extraordinary abilities. The show doesn’t reveal where he got these powers, but it’s clear they cause complications. Whenever Simon experiences strong emotions, he emits a powerful energy. While he mostly uses this power destructively, the ending suggests the now-famous actor has a much greater potential.

The show uses Williams’ powers to move the story forward, but doesn’t center the plot around them. This creates a sense of intrigue as we anticipate Wonder Man’s arrival in the MCU. Considering his strength in the comics, we’re probably only seeing a small part of what Simon can actually do. He starts the series very anxious, but as he gains confidence, it seems his powers become easier to control.

Surprisingly, Trevor Slattery ends up being a huge help to Simon as he learns to control his abilities. We find out in the first episode that Trevor was sent to spy on Simon by the DODC. However, they quickly become friends, and Trevor starts to question whether he should even be carrying out his original mission.

As Trevor and Williams become closer friends during the season, Trevor finds himself battling increasing difficulties. He successfully avoids trouble with the DODC for a time, until both land the roles they’ve always wanted on the show Wonder Man. Once in the public spotlight, their behavior starts to attract more attention. This eventually leads to an interview with The New York Times, where Trevor’s secret arrangement is revealed.

Okay, so things get intense when Simon finally corners Trevor in his trailer. Honestly, it felt like watching a scene ripped straight from Wonder Man – that same fraught, emotional confrontation. Just like in that movie, a confession is made, and it seals everyone’s fate. Realizing he’s completely ruined his life, Williams just… unravels. He storms out and ends up at a warehouse, where he loses it completely, and tragically, brings the whole building down with him. It’s a devastating sequence, visually and emotionally.

The Department of Defense Compliance team is thrilled, believing they’ve finally caught Williams doing something wrong, and they push Trevor again to write about his friend. But the show has demonstrated that Trevor is also deeply affected by the situation. Though he knows he’s made mistakes he can’t take back, he does the only thing he can think of to help his only friend.

Knowing the DODC was closing in on Williams, Trevor decided to reactivate an old alias. He pretended to be the Mandarin, claiming responsibility for the warehouse explosions and revealing he’d been impersonating Slattery all along. While the DODC were skeptical, the evidence was compelling enough to detain Trevor instead of Simon.

Simon’s sacrifice helps him understand that Trevor has always been a true friend, caught in a no-win situation. Their connection is reminiscent of the forced friendship between Wonder Man and Barnaby, but ultimately becomes surprisingly strong and meaningful for viewers.

I’ve been completely captivated by the connection between these two characters – they really make the series! Their relationship has quickly become one of the most memorable things Marvel’s done in ages. When Trevor makes that huge sacrifice, it finally allows Simon to become Wonder Man, which is something he’s wanted his entire life. The movie is a smash hit and he gets everything the character ever hoped for, but honestly, watching it, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was still off.

Without Trevor, Williams doesn’t fully enjoy his biggest success, and he keeps thinking about the sacrifices his friends made for him. Trevor initially didn’t want to return to prison, but his feelings for the actor Simon changed everything, and he couldn’t abandon him. Luckily, Simon feels the same way about Trevor.

After becoming a famous actor, Simon leverages his celebrity to get access to people’s lives. He unexpectedly visits a man who works at the highly secure DODC SuperMax prison, pretending it’s for a film project. Surprisingly, the man welcomes Simon inside, giving him a look at his job. This allows Simon to finally reconnect with Trevor, and the two quickly resolve their past issues.

Simon easily breaks open Slattery’s cell and uses his powers to help them both escape the prison. This moment caught many viewers off guard, leading them to question how the usually emotionally driven character had managed to keep his abilities under control throughout the show, especially considering his past struggles. However, most didn’t realize there was a small gap in time between Trevor’s arrest and his escape, which likely explained his improved control.

Simon’s powers grew stronger when he achieved personal fulfillment. Reaching his goals gave him the self-assurance he needed to fully control them, ultimately liberating him. The series finale, like the rest of the show, doesn’t include a post-credits scene, instead highlighting the credits themselves. While Wonder Man will likely reappear, the timing and nature of his return are still unknown.

The series finale largely delivered on the hints it had been building throughout the season. Trevor, also known as Barnaby, is Simon, a.k.a. Wonder Man’s, sole friend, but ultimately betrays him, much to the main character’s disappointment. In a surprising twist, the show doesn’t make the expected character pay the price, instead focusing on Slattery. Luckily, he’s quickly rescued from prison by a newly self-assured Simon Williams, who uses his energy powers. Their bond is incredibly memorable, and viewers are already eager to see them team up again in a future Marvel project.
