Man, everyone’s already hyped for the next generation of Pokemon games – Gen 10! I’m really hoping they give the original Kanto Pokemon some cool updates. We’ve seen them do this a lot lately with regional forms and new evolutions, and I’m expecting more of the same. It feels like they always find ways to make those classic Pokemon feel fresh and relevant, and I’m guessing Gen 10 will be no different. I’m excited to see what they come up with!

As a long-time Pokémon fan, I’ve been really excited to see how the newer games have been treating the original 151! Pokémon Legends: Z-A brought back Mega Evolutions for some classic Kanto Pokémon like Dragonite and Starmie, which was awesome. Then Scarlet and Violet surprised us with three different regional forms for Tauros! It’s so cool to see these older Pokémon getting updated and staying relevant, and I’m really hoping the next generation of games does the same for even more of my favorites from Gen 1. It keeps the whole experience fresh for both old-school players like me and those just starting out.

It could also tap into Paras and Parasect in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which were some of the most aggressive critters in the game, but this time give them a form or evolution that expands on the fungus that is taking control of the Pokemon.
  • Venomoth: A potential regional form or cross-gen evolution could give Venomoth a fresh competitive edge, which it desperately needs. It could even get a convergent species that looks more like a dragonfly than a moth and make it the first Bug/Dragon-type Pokemon in the series.
  • Golduck: Golduck could get a new evolutionary line or a Water/Psychic variant that better reflects its Psychic-type abilities, but considering its recent success in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s competitive VGC, it could be lower on the priority list.
  • Dodrio: A regional form could make Dodrio stand out, perhaps with a Dark/Flying or Fighting/Flying typing, much like the new Mega Staraptor in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
  • Dewgong: Real-life dugongs are unfortunately contaminated by toxic metals and pollution in waters, and Gen 10 could use this as a form of critique of modern society by giving Dewgong a Water/Poison or Ice/Poison variant. The latter would also be the first of its kind.
  • Cloyster: Cloyster could receive regional variants or special evolutions, giving it more relevance in competitive play. While not inherently a bad Pokemon in battle, there are very often better choices.
  • Hypno: Hypno might get a new evolution or cross-gen evolution that transforms it into something darker, such as a Dark/Psychic-type, or maybe the first non-Legendary/Mythical Psychic/Ghost, as this type is used by critters like Hoopa and Calyrex Shadow Rider.
  • Seaking: Seaking could receive a new regional form or special gimmick, possibly inspired by more mystical aquatic creatures, and it would deserve it more than most critters on the list due to being one of the most forgotten Gen 1 Pokemon.
  • Ditto: The transforming nature of Ditto makes it a prime candidate for a special gimmick or cross-gen evolution that gives it more versatility in battle, but it could be equally difficult to pin this down to a single gimmick.
  • Omastar and Kabutops: These fossil Pokemon could get a new evolutionary branch or regional forms based on prehistoric marine life. Another option could be a convergent species, or maybe give one of them a regional form that makes them the first Rock/Ghost-type Pokemon in the series — essentially, a reanimated fossil.
