Good news for Hytale players! The game developers plan to release updates more quickly. Hytale is off to a great start, and frequent updates will keep players engaged and give the team more freedom as they continue developing the game.
Hytale has been updated several times since its launch. The game was nearly cancelled, but was saved and released on PC in early access on January 13th. Even though it’s only been a few weeks, the developers have already added features like character customization and even dinosaurs! Now, the team is changing how they plan and release future updates.
Hytale Dev Details New Update Plans
Hypixel Studios CEO Simon Collins-Laflamme recently announced a new approach to updating Hytale to speed up development. The team plans to use a test version of the game to release frequent, weekly updates with new features and improvements. These updates will be intentionally unstable at times, but players will be informed of any known issues. While Hytale automatically backs up worlds, players are encouraged to create their own backups, especially if they plan to use the same worlds on the test version. Once the team is happy with the test version, they’ll announce a release date for the official update and will give players advance warning to prepare mods and servers.
Collins-Laflamme explains that the first week of the new update system might be a little rough as the team gets used to it. Ultimately, they want developers to focus more on creating updates and new features, and less time on actually releasing them. Players can expect official updates every 2 to 6 weeks, depending on how the pre-release versions are going. Regardless, quick fixes will still be released whenever necessary to ensure a good experience for everyone, whether they play the finished versions, the pre-releases, or both. Overall, Hytale players seem happy with the changes and appreciate the developers being open and honest about the process.
Hytale, The Game That Almost Wasn’t
Hytale stands out from many modern games, and not just because its developers are very open about how they update it. The CEO has described Hytale as a game that will receive updates ‘as long as gaming exists.’ Even before its early access release, Hytale had secured funding for the first two years of development simply through pre-orders. It’s an impressive turnaround for a game that nearly didn’t happen.
Players of Minecraft and the Hypixel server were disappointed when Hytale was canceled in mid-2025. Even the creator of Stardew Valley offered to help. Fortunately, Simon Collins-Laflamme bought the rights to the game and released it soon after. Although Hytale launched before it was fully complete, fans are enjoying it and excited about its future. The developers’ commitment to updates and open communication is a positive sign.
