Released in 2007, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was a hugely important game for Sony. It set a new standard for quality on consoles, helping Sony become a leading company in the gaming industry and putting them well ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox. The game was a critical success, launching a popular series and building a loyal community of PlayStation fans.
The main story of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End concluded in 2016, and after the spin-off The Lost Legacy came out the next year, the series went on hold. Fans have been hoping for a new installment ever since, and while several excellent PS5 games have been released, a few capture a similar feeling to Uncharted. Here are some great PS5 titles that share story elements or gameplay with the Uncharted series.
8. Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered
All Inspiring Adventure
The impact of Tomb Raider on Uncharted is clear, and this recent remaster of the original three Tomb Raider games is a great way to recognize Lara Croft’s legacy. While this collection is largely an upgraded version of games from the 1990s, and the controls could have been more thoroughly modernized, they’ve been adjusted enough to be enjoyable for players unfamiliar with the original PlayStation games. Ultimately, these remain classic, challenging puzzle-platformers with a fresh coat of paint.
If you’re looking for a nostalgic trip and enjoy exploring ancient ruins, the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered collection is a fantastic choice, even if you’ve never played the original games. The first Tomb Raider remains one of the greatest adventure games ever made, with a truly immersive atmosphere, and the sequels continue that same exciting experience.
While not as groundbreaking as the first Tomb Raider collection, Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered is still worth playing if you enjoyed the original games.
7. Banishers: Ghosts Of New Eden
Impactful Narrative
The Uncharted series stood out from other games because of its compelling story and characters you could connect with. Banishers: Ghost of New Eden aims to capture that same magic, telling a supernatural story centered around themes of loss and healing.
While the different parts of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden don’t quite flow together seamlessly, it still stands out as a story-focused adventure game. Players investigate ghostly occurrences and make difficult choices about whether to help spirits move on or punish those who are haunted. The combat isn’t particularly memorable, but the game’s story and writing are excellent.
6. A Plague Tale: Requiem
Macabre Puzzler
A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence, building on the original game with more stealth challenges and puzzles. It’s set in a dark and gritty fantasy world and features a captivating story with gameplay that feels both new and familiar.
Both games heavily feature environmental puzzles. In A Plague Tale: Requiem, these often involve using light to steer clear of swarms of rats. The game also includes action sequences that play out like those in Uncharted, especially the dramatic moments where the character runs towards the camera while escaping danger – a signature style of Naughty Dog.
5. Horizon Forbidden West
For Those Who Want An Open-World Uncharted
Although Uncharted 4 included some larger areas to explore, the Uncharted series never fully embraced an open-world design, and that was likely a good decision. If you’re looking for an open-world game that offers a similar experience, Horizon Forbidden West (and the first Horizon Zero Dawn) is probably the closest you’ll find. Be aware that Horizon‘s open-world nature means the story unfolds at a slower pace, and you’ll spend a significant amount of time exploring between main missions.
I absolutely loved HFW! It’s a really fun action game where you control Aloy in third-person, and there’s some cool platforming and puzzle-solving too. The graphics are stunning, and the environments – all inspired by nature – are just breathtaking. It’s not quite as tightly focused on action as Uncharted, but Aloy’s story is really compelling and gets better and better as you play.
4. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Uncharted Space
Like its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor clearly draws inspiration from the acclaimed Uncharted series. It features many of the same elements – challenging puzzles, fast-paced 3D platforming, a gripping story, and exciting, cinematic action sequences full of mayhem.
Playing Jedi: Survivor feels a lot like experiencing an Uncharted game, but within the Star Wars galaxy. It builds on that familiar style with a deeper story and a more challenging combat system. While the combat takes inspiration from difficult ‘Soulslike’ games, it’s just one aspect of what makes Jedi: Survivor special.
3. God Of War Ragnarok
Cornerstone Of Its Own
Even now, God of War Ragnarök remains a top-tier console game. When Sony reimagined the God of War series, they drew inspiration from games like Uncharted and, particularly, The Last of Us, resulting in a more emotional and serious story with stunning cinematic moments. God of War Ragnarök strongly emphasizes puzzles, discovering secrets, and a compelling narrative – all key elements that make it stand out.
I was so excited about God of War Ragnarok, and it totally delivered! It wasn’t just a remake or a quick restart of the series – it brought so much new, amazing gameplay and combat to the table. Honestly, it feels like it’s become one of the most important games for PlayStation, right up there with the classics.
2. The Last Of Us Part 1
The Remake Of Naughty Dog’s Magnum Opus
Playing The Last of Us Part 1 feels a bit like an easy win. It’s not necessarily a game that takes full advantage of the PS5, but it is the best way to experience the story, even though it doesn’t drastically change the original. While the PS4 and PS3 versions are both excellent, the improved graphics and enemy intelligence in the remake are hard to ignore. If you’ve played Joel and Ellie’s journey countless times already, this remake might not offer much new. However, if you’re new to The Last of Us, Part 1 is the perfect place to start.
As a huge fan, I think what really sets The Last of Us apart is how incredible the characters are and the story they tell. It’s definitely a more serious and emotional game than the Uncharted series, though there are still some lighter moments. You play as Joel, and the game is set in a really bleak, post-apocalyptic America. He has to protect Ellie, who’s immune to the infection, and get her to a group called the Fireflies, who might be able to make a cure.
1. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Nathan Drake’s Ancestor Finally Has A Great PS5 Game
Indiana Jones set the standard for adventurous archaeologists long before characters like Lara Croft and Nathan Drake appeared. He remains the most well-known fictional archaeologist of all time, and his influence is clear in those who followed. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the first major console game featuring Indy in over a decade, following The Staff of Kings and Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. It’s also the most ambitious and impressive game in the series so far. Developed by the team behind Wolfenstein, The Great Circle delivers a thrilling, worldwide adventure that perfectly captures the spirit of the classic films, and many fans consider it the best Indiana Jones story in years.
MachineGames chose a first-person perspective, a smart move that highlights their skills and differentiates the game from Uncharted. Nevertheless, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle remains a fantastic choice for fans of Naughty Dog’s series, as both deliver compelling puzzles, exciting action, and engaging conversations, all adding up to a grand adventure.
