Modder Combines a PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2 Into One Console

A talented modder has created a single, powerful gaming system by combining the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch 2, playfully calling it the “Ningtendo PXBOX 5.” People have always enjoyed taking apart and modifying game consoles to understand how they work and improve their performance. While the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2 are all great on their own, one fan decided they’d be even better combined and took on the challenge of building this unique mega-system.

The console market is in a strange place currently. Although players are generally eager for new releases, console sales have been declining recently, and it’s unclear what the next generation will bring. Rumors suggest Sony might release a portable PS6 and the next Xbox could blend PC and console features, but these ideas are overshadowed by the Ningtendo PXBOX 5, which promises to combine the strengths of all three major console brands.

YouTuber and hardware enthusiast XNZ was tired of needing different consoles to play all the games she wanted, so she built a single system that combines the three major consoles. While Xbox is starting to offer more games on different platforms, many games are still exclusive to certain consoles, forcing players to choose. XNZ solved this by fitting the internal components of each console into one case, and she created a custom cooling system using a lost wax casting process. She initially planned to machine the cooling system with CNC technology, but it would have cost over $700, so she chose the more affordable, though trickier, casting method.

The cooling system was designed with inspiration from the 2013 Apple Mac Pro—often called the “trash can” Mac—which used a unique triangular cooling setup. XNZ, the creator, believed this design could effectively cool all three of her game consoles at once. It’s conceptually similar to how the Xbox Series X cools its components: a fan pulls air in from the bottom and divides it to cool everything from all sides as it rises. While Xbox doesn’t use a complex casting process for its heatsinks, XNZ’s approach proved successful after some experimentation.

The Ningtendo PXBOX 5 faced a challenge because the Switch 2 is a hybrid console, meaning its internal components couldn’t connect to the system in the same way as the Series X or PS5. To solve this, XNZ created a smaller dock using a 3D printer, allowing the Switch 2 to fit inside the PXBOX 5 and benefit from its central cooling system. When undocking the handheld, a spring mechanism ejects it from the side of the PXBOX 5, much like a toaster.

This custom-built console uses an Arduino board to connect all the components, letting users easily turn it on and switch between gaming systems with a single button. While it can run the Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X all at once without using too much power, it can only play one game at a time to prevent overloading. Because the PS5 and Series X parts lack disc drives—just like the Switch—this console is entirely digital. This might not be a problem, as digital-only Xbox consoles have proven popular, but some players who prefer physical games may be disappointed. Even so, the Ningtendo PXBOX 5 is a remarkable creation, though it’s unlikely Nintendo, Sony, or Xbox will officially release something similar anytime soon.
