As a long-time fan of Marathon, I’ve been desperately waiting for any news about its return, and it looks like we finally got a little something! Erica Lindbeck, a really talented voice actress, recently chatted with Naomi Kyle on the TopMob podcast. She let slip a few details about working on the new Marathon game, which sounds like it’s going to be an extraction shooter. It’s not much, but it’s incredibly exciting to finally hear something is happening!
A “Frigging Awesome” Addition to the Roster
Although many details about the game are still unknown, Lindbeck revealed she’ll be playing one of the main characters. Given how important the game’s look and how players connect with it are, Lindbeck’s enthusiasm hints that Bungie is focusing on creating compelling characters.
Lindbeck, a playable character in [Marathon], described herself as ‘frigging awesome’ when asked what she thought of the character. She was enthusiastic and direct in her assessment.
Cinematic Scope and Industrial Pedigree
The most fascinating part of the interview was learning how ambitious the game’s storytelling will be. Lindbeck described a huge, complex sequence that suggests the game will feature a level of visual storytelling rarely found in this type of game.
“I got to do this beautiful cinematic, it’s like an eight-minute-long cinematic,” she said.
This sequence looks to be exceptionally high quality. Lindbeck mentioned it was directed by Alberto Mielgo, known for his work on the acclaimed ‘Jibaro’ episode of ‘Love, Death & Robots’. Mielgo’s reputation suggests ‘Marathon’ will be visually stunning, as well as a compelling competitive shooter.
The “100th Job” Mentality
For actress Laura Bailey (who has voiced characters like Black Cat in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Barbie), working on Marathon has been a particularly rewarding creative experience. She praised the teamwork at Bungie, saying it felt much more positive and collaborative than some other studios she’s worked with.
She explained to Kyle that she views every project as building towards something special. ‘I do 99 jobs so that the hundredth can be this,’ she said, emphasizing her enthusiasm for the project and praising the team at Bungie as being genuinely collaborative and open to everyone’s ideas.
Marching Toward 2026
The game is currently scheduled to launch on March 5, 2026, and fans are eager for any details about what will make it stand out in the competitive world of shooting games. Based on the excitement from developer Lindbeck and the participation of talented animators like Mielgo, Bungie seems to be planning something much bigger than just a remake.
Lindbeck expressed optimism about the project, saying she’s hopeful for success and eager to see what 2026 brings. She jokingly urged the year not to let her down, indicating her positive outlook just one month into the year.
With the March release date getting closer, Bungie will probably share more detailed information soon. But for now, the exciting new character and the impressive eight-minute cinematic are enough to keep players excited.
