Pokémon have a huge range of abilities, letting them do everything from manipulate water to heal with moonlight. But one of the most intriguing powers in the Pokémon world is aura. While aura in the real world refers to the energy surrounding living beings, in Pokémon, it’s a power that certain individuals can actually control.
In the Pokémon games, certain Pokémon like Mienshao and Lucario can use the move Aura Sphere. But in the anime, only a handful of Pokémon actually demonstrate this specific attack. Still, many Pokémon are deeply connected to their surroundings, or can use their own energy to influence events.
10. Milotic’s Aura Can Soothe Troubled Hearts
The Tender Pokémon Usually Works With Water-type Attacks
Feebas is a Pokémon originally discovered in a few parts of the Hoenn region. Like Magikarp, it’s often overlooked because of its weak stats and plain looks. But if you give this Water-type Pokémon a chance – either by raising its Beauty stat to the maximum or trading it while it holds a Prism Scale – it will evolve into Milotic. Milotic, known as the Tender Pokémon, is considered one of the most beautiful Pokémon in the world. It can learn a diverse range of moves, including Water, Fairy, and even Dragon-type attacks.
Milotic is famous for its calming aura, which can ease negative emotions and even prevent fights. While it can’t attack using aura itself, it can use the aura to distract opponents before striking. Several skilled Trainers, including Cynthia, Juan, and Wallace, have successfully used Milotic in battle.
9. Medicham Can See the Auras of Its Foes
Despite Being a Fighting-type, Medicham Cannot Use Aura Sphere
Meditite, a Fighting and Psychic-type Pokémon, lives in the Hoenn mountains and trains tirelessly to improve its fighting skills. It’s incredibly dedicated, limiting its diet to just one berry each day. When it evolves into Medicham, this intense training allows it to perceive the aura of other Pokémon – a detail noted in the Pokémon Platinum Pokédex. Through practices like yoga and meditation, Medicham develops a kind of sixth sense, letting it anticipate its opponents’ attacks.
Aura Sphere is a Fighting-type attack commonly used by Pokémon like Mienshao. Interestingly, despite being a Fighting and Psychic-type, Medicham can’t learn this move through normal gameplay. Instead, Medicham’s aura abilities are limited to predicting what will happen next. Even so, Medicham has been a valuable partner to several prominent Trainers in the Pokémon anime, including the powerful Greta.
8. Morpeko’s Signature Move Is Aura Wheel
Aura Wheel Changes Type Alongside Morpeko
Starting with the third generation of Pokémon games, developers have created Electric-type Pokémon that resemble Pikachu but aren’t directly related to its family. Following the introduction of Plusle and Minun, others like Emolga and Pawmi have appeared. One of the newest is Morpeko, a cute Electric/Dark-type with a special ability called Hunger Switch. This ability causes Morpeko to alternate between a calm, full-bellied form and a more aggressive, ‘hangry’ form at the end of each turn in battle.
Morpeko has a special ability: it can shift the type of its move, Aura Wheel, using its ever-changing energy. When Morpeko is full, Aura Wheel becomes an Electric-type attack. But when it’s hungry, the move changes to a Dark-type attack. Morpeko is also well-known as the partner Pokémon of Marnie, a character who frequently uses it in her most challenging battles both in the Pokémon anime and in the video games.
7. Sylveon Uses a Calming Aura To Deceive Opponents
This Eeveelution Became a Core Part of Serena’s Team
Eevee, a Normal-type Pokémon first appearing in the original games, is consistently one of the most beloved Pokémon. Many fans even consider Eevee a secondary mascot, frequently seen with Pikachu at big Pokémon events. A key reason for Eevee’s popularity is its ability to evolve into eight different forms, affectionately called “Eeveelutions” by fans. Sylveon, the newest of these evolutions, quickly became a favorite when it debuted in Generation VI.
Sylveon is known for being a sweet and affectionate Pokémon, deeply devoted to its Trainer. It’s even said to hold ‘arms’ with its Trainer using its ribbon-like feelers! While battling or facing other Pokémon, Sylveon first emits a calming aura with its feelers to lull opponents into a false sense of security. Then, surprisingly, it attacks! Sylveon is a fan favorite in the animated series, often seen with characters like Valerie and Serena, and it frequently uses this calming aura as a tactic to catch its opponents off guard.
6. Gallade Comes From a Line of Highly Empathetic Pokémon
The Blade Pokémon Can Sense Whenever Someone Is in Trouble
The Ralts family consists of four Pokémon that are highly sensitive to the emotions of others, sensing the auras around people. Ralts are naturally shy and rarely show themselves to humans, except for those with kind hearts. If a male Ralts is befriended, trained into a Kirlia, and then evolved using a rare Dawn Stone, it becomes Gallade. This Psychic/Fighting-type Pokémon is known for its strong sense of honor and will fiercely defend those it cares about.
Gallade is a Pokémon with a strong sense of fairness, and it uses its abilities to feel the emotions and needs of those around it. While it can learn the powerful move Aura Sphere in the games, this hasn’t been shown in the anime. Regardless, Gallade is known for being considerate and perceptive, able to sense the energy of both its friends and enemies. Several Gallade have appeared in the anime, including those belonging to Pokémon Coordinator Zoey and Trainer Rinto, as well as one that protected its community in Alamos Town.
5. Togekiss Is Very in Tune With the World’s Atmosphere
A Togekiss Will Never Appear Where There Is Strife

In the early seasons of the Pokémon cartoon, Ash and his friends cared for a baby Togepi that eventually joined Misty’s Pokémon team. Like all Togepi, this Fairy-type Pokémon (originally considered a Normal-type until more recent generations) only evolves into Togetic when it develops a close friendship with its Trainer. To get Togetic to fully evolve, however, a Trainer needs to find a special item called a Shiny Stone.
Misty once owned a Togetic, but eventually let it go. Other trainers, like Ash’s friend Dawn, have also been seen with Togekiss. Despite being a Fairy and Flying type, Togekiss can learn the powerful move Aura Sphere, and it’s used this move both in the animated series and in the video games. Togekiss, known as the Jubilee Pokémon, only appears in peaceful places and is said to bring good fortune to those filled with kindness. However, it’s becoming increasingly rare to spot one, according to the Pokédex.
4. Gardevoir Is Well-Known for Its Psychic and Empathetic Abilities
Gardevoir’s Aura-Related Powers Grow Stronger Through Mega Evolution
Before Generation IV, Gardevoir was the only Pokémon that Kirlia could evolve into. Originally a pure Psychic-type, Gardevoir gained the Fairy-type in Generation VI when Fairy-type Pokémon were first introduced. Gardevoir is well-known for its incredible loyalty, and will even risk its life to protect its Trainer. It uses its psychic powers to constantly watch over its surroundings and keep its Trainer safe.
Gardevoir is an incredibly powerful Pokémon, even capable of creating a small black hole, though it only does so when absolutely needed. It can also use its psychic energy to create a strong offensive attack with Aura Sphere. When Gardevoir Mega Evolves, it’s said to fully open its heart, unlocking its maximum potential. Many trainers have partnered with Gardevoir, including notable figures like Diantha and Kimia, who can trigger its Mega Evolution.
3. Ash’s Greninja Is Extremely Unique Compared To Other Greninja
Aside From the Bond Phenomenon, Greninja Can Also Harness Aura
Ash is famous for teaming up with incredibly strong Pokémon, and his Greninja is one of the most well-known. When Greninja was a Froakie, it was lonely and struggled to connect with others. Meeting Ash, who shared his passion for training and battling, finally gave Froakie a true friend. Their close bond eventually led to Greninja evolving and unlocking a special transformation, known as “Ash-Greninja,” through a unique connection called the Bond Phenomenon.
Currently, Ash’s Greninja is unique as the only Pokémon confirmed to be able to transform through the Bond Phenomenon. It was sad when Ash and Greninja parted ways – Ash continued his journey, while Greninja remained in the wild, protecting its home. Later on, Greninja guided Ash’s Lucario, sharing its knowledge of aura, a power rare even within its own species. All of this makes Ash’s Greninja truly special, even among the already powerful Greninja Pokémon.
2. Mewtwo Was Created From the DNA of Mew
Mewtwo’s Aura Is Able To Intimidate Foes
Team Rocket, headed by Giovanni, has always dreamed of taking over the world. But one experiment became a lasting source of shame for the organization and almost led to the destruction of the Pokémon world. Giovanni’s scientists used the genetic code of the legendary Pokémon Mew to create a powerful clone named Mewtwo. Feeling disgusted that it was only seen as a weapon, Mewtwo broke free and swore revenge on both humans and any Pokémon who sided with them.
Mewtwo is widely considered the strongest Pokémon, even compared to other legendary ones. It’s unique in that it can Mega Evolve into two different forms: Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. The Mega Mewtwo X form adds the Fighting-type to its Psychic abilities. But even without this, Mewtwo is incredibly powerful, demonstrated by its use of the Aura Sphere attack in the first Pokémon movie. It also has an Ability called Pressure, which lets it intimidate opponents with a powerful aura.
1. Lucario Crafted the Very Basis of Aura-Related Powers
Aura Sphere Was Once Lucario’s Signature Move
The movie Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew first showed fans how Pokémon can use aura powers, an idea that’s become much more common since then. It also marked the first animated appearance of Lucario, a popular Pokémon originally featured in the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl video games. When Lucario is a Riolu, it’s very sensitive to its surroundings, but after evolving, it learns to control those energies. Lucario is credited with creating the Aura Sphere attack and was key in introducing the concept of aura to the Pokémon universe.
The first Lucario known to partner with a human was Sir Aaron, a skilled young man who used aura in battle. He trained and mentored his Lucario, acting as a guide and teacher. Since then, Lucario has become a popular Pokémon in various stories and appearances, featuring alongside characters like Korrina, Ash, and Riley—who is believed to be related to Sir Aaron. Lucario is also known for its powerful Mega Evolutions, Mega Lucario and Mega Lucario Z, with the latter recently being introduced in the game Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
