As a lifelong video game enthusiast who has traversed the digital landscapes of Japan countless times, I can confidently say that the upcoming physical release of “BAKERU” for Nintendo Switch is a day I’ve been eagerly anticipating. Having grown up with the tales of Goemon and his adventures, I’m thrilled to see this new game inspired by those timeless stories.
Spike Chunsoft recently shared the news that the action game BAKERU is set to release a physical version for Nintendo Switch in Europe and North America on February 25th, 2025.
If you place a pre-order for the physical version of the product at either a UK or EU retailer, you’ll receive an “Exclusive Double-Sided A3 BAKERU Paper Poster” as a bonus. Please note that this special offer is only available through the official store. Currently, a demo of the game is accessible on Nintendo Switch if you haven’t played it yet. Additionally, the digital version is still up for grabs via the eShop.
On a stormy night, I encountered Sun from the lssun clan and met Bakeru the Tanuki. Little did we know, this meeting would set off a chain of events that would rock Japan to its core. I soon learned that Oracle Saitaro and his Festival Troops were using an unusual festival to seize control over Japan. Moved by the plight of my country, I made a vow with Sun: We would embark on a journey to restore peace in Japan. So begins my quest, guided by Bakeru, to traverse 47 Japanese prefectures and banish evil spirits from our land.
In this 30-action game, assume the character Bakeru as you journey through Japan’s 47 prefectures, battling the Festival Troops to stop them and bring back peace. Expect battles involving fairy tale heroes and colossal robots. Defend yourself using your taiko drum, and if you acquire a Henge license, utilize the Tanuki’s ability to transform into various shapes. The game showcases Japan’s lively and diverse environment while offering tough stages highlighting each region’s unique traits.
